Thought I'd post a few first hand comments on my trip yesterday to Monza,
being a keen photographer also wanted to get some shoots as well as enjoy the Tifosi experience !..... well the photos didn't go to plan, see thread over in the photography section for samples....
Arrived in good time.... but the challenge of the strange sign posting to the event, sent me around the block, and to the back of the queue that had developed !.......
Parking was "interesting" ..... Not sure people should complain about Silverstone..... I got parked on the side of a dual carriage way!!
Running through Monza town, and than had to catch a bus into the park....Which lead to about a 15 minute walk to the entry gates....
The walk in takes you under the old banked circuit, and by heck it is !! you don't get a feel for just how steep it is on the TV.....
Did a walk around, looking for good picture spots, but it's a difficult circuit to view, where they haven't built a stand, is normal amongst the trees, and very high fence, as you are really close to the track. So give a great sensation of speed an noise, but not photo's
Made my way over to Variante Ascari, arriving seconds after Kimi stuffs it into the tyre wall during morning practice.... I heard the thump, and saw the smoke as I climbed the grass bank.......dam... missed it !
Moved around to the entry to Ascari, stood very close to the track, at the last bridge just before they start breaking... circ 200mph is *** quick and loud !!!
...... Watching them break and down shift was impressive, the McLaren down shift speed seem so much quicker and later then anyone else.
Didn't have a pit walk about pass, so didn't see much on the infield, and then made my way to the Curva Parabolica, where I had seat in the final grandstand... right opposite the big screen...
The atmosphere was good, very friendly, and 3 distinct camps, anything in red !!! Alonso camp, and the Hamilton camp......
Everytime a Ferrari went past or were on screen the air horns and clapping and cheering went off..... heck they applauded Luca de Montezemolo for appearing on the screen.... and even Shummie got a cheer for waving to the camera from the pit wall......LOL
As the sector times were traded in qualie, the three camps traded cheers and air horns ..... you could also most hear the disbelief as the Mclarens kept putting green sectors in after the Ferrari's times....
A good experience, amongst a very friendly and passionate crowd........might be tempted to get a seat for the race next year....
The GP2 race is worth watching.... Lot's of incidents .......
For a few pictures see the Photo forum.....
