Nooooooooo; 780i = 680i + PCI-E 2 Bridge Chip

That's really bad on Nvidia's part if that is the case. Kinda hoping the original source had a fake or false information with pictures. Wonder if it's a "690" board, basically the 600 series chipset but built for DDR3 and PCI-E 2.0 as the "790" is the DDR3 version of the 700 series chipset. Would explain the sheer lack of new technology on that reference board. Either that or it's a really early version of the board, maybe just for "looks" to show what it'll look like and they didn't have a 700 series board ready and used a 600 series one.

Looks sweet but its a bit of a bodge job if you ask me. Still it may clock like a beast - no one knows yet.

Lets hope ATI/AMD release a decent GPU so we can go xfire.

Take with a pinch of salt, this could be the refresh 680i (although dumb) as Asus promised new REV mobos with 1400 build bioses to fix some issues.

We know there is real 700 Chips out as they have 2 Mobos for Intel/AMD with intregated VGA's, and Asus have a tendancy to do what they like and ignore Nvidia, as before the 2x full 16x SLI slots on a 939 Mobo was only to be Intel and Asus made one for AMD also.

SLi = Nvidia monopoly.

On AMD platform, the option to go SLi isn't all that bad, as Socket A, 754, 939 and AM2 were best when paired with their respective nVidia chipsets.

On Intel though, 680i was just jack of all trades, master of none apart from SLi. Slower clock for clock than most Intel chipsets, slower RAID, unlinked memory was a good point but left massive FSB holes in some configurations.

I bet if Intel made an AMD chipset it would be the better one.

I do miss the stability and simplicity of my NF4 + 939 Opty setup though, I very much doubt that RD790 from AMD will be that amazing. RD420, RD580, RD600 were nothing special and beaten by the nVidia chipsets.
