On the contrary, PES2008 on Wii looks every bit as realistic as its hi-def cousins and, if initial thoughts prove right, it could well offer a greater level of control and freedom in terms of gameplay.

The reason for this is that Konami has cleverly used the Nunchuk and Wiimote to enhanced the gameplay experience rather than bolt on some motion-sensing gimmick. Here, the Nunchuk stick is used to move the player around screen and the B button is used to pass. No big deal you may think, but what's interesting is that the Wiimote appears as a point on the screen, affecting the gameplay in a couple of ways. Firstly, it's an alternative way of moving your player around the screen - drag the cursor around while holding A and your player will follow the on-screen target. Secondly, the cursor is used to accurately pass the ball, so if you want to thread a looping through ball to a winger (rather than the obvious guy standing nearby) simply move the target over the runner's head and press pass.
Very impressive. Sounds like Konami know what they're doing!

I get fed-up with the control method on Fifa 08, having to remember all the buttons/movement combined, it is meant to be making playing games easier but it seemed to be opposite for me personally! :( After reading Pro Evo Soccer 08 preview, it looks like EA didn't do it right with Fifa 08.

Sounds interesting, but could be incredibly tiring on your arms. I played Fifa for 14 hours the other day and it was okay with the pad, I couldn't imagine doing a 14 hour session of Wii gaming.

Saying that, last time I had a session of PES I smashed the disc into bits :p.

Come on though, 14 hours? That's seriously unhealthy to do anything for that length of time! :p

Actually on topic, I would love to get my mits on this bad boy. Haven't dared invest in FIFA knowing Mario and Metroid are coming up (and I've got a mortgage to pay for soon!)

720p

A comment just made in the this preview that all these screenshots are 1280 x 720 pixels! Screenshots for Wii are usually 480 pixel or less!

Read somewhere that Wii is capable of outputting 720p if that is case with PES, that would be sweet!

I think that's wishful thinking mate. :( There are often higher resolution screenshots floating about - Battalion Wars II springs to mind.

True. Very true.
It was a weekend and I just wanted to chill :p.

I wish I could get 2 hours on a game - I'm 31 hours into Zelda... which I've had since launch lol. Not through lack of trying.

Do EA pay you per word when you mention FIFA in every Pro Evo thread? :D

I would have happily mentioned another game had I played that for 14 hours straight :p. It was just that that was the last game I played for an extended period of time and it was also a football game, so I thought it was a worthwhile comment. :)

Join the club mate! My first mortgage payment is due out any day now and there's loads of games I want! The GF is getting a Wii for Xmas which is handy :D

Aye, I think I'm mortgage free till the 1st, which will be a monster payment so my 'gaming fund' is stuck in savings, awaiting Halifax to steal it lol.

that looks a good idea but watch the gameplay video - it looks insanely frantic... i wonder if that method CAN actually work in a high paced game...
