Just seen a new post on majornelson.com and I thought I'd post it here. He mentions account sharing and gamesave tampering.

http://www.majornelson.com/archive/...haring-and-Gamesave-tampering-dont-do-it.aspx

have mentioned this a couple of times on my podcasts, but I want to make sure those that don't listen to the show get the message. Specifically, don't share your account information. If you run into that person in Halo 3 who claims if they could have your LIVE ID name and password to recover your Xbox LIVE account to their Xbox and they'll rank you up or find you all the hidden skulls in Halo 3, I urge you not to fall to temptation. While it may be appealing, in addition to violating the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use it can also result in you permanently losing your account. If that 'friend' of yours decides not return your account and buys a bunch of Arcade titles and movies on your account, there is nothing we can do except cancel the account since you willingly shared your information.

Cancelled.

As in you can never get it back.

In addition to losing your Gamertag, you'll also lose your Gamerscore, saved games and any points you have on the account.

While I am on the subject of things you should not do, I strongly urge you not to tamper with your Gamerscore and Achievements. If you decide to employ some nefarious techniques to artificially increase your Gamerscore or obtain achievements by manipulating the Xbox software without playing the game, bad things will happen. What type of bad things? For one thing we may remove the entire Gamerscore for an account that contains manipulated gamerscore. Let me be more clear: If you use tampered gamesaves to boost your Achievements and Gamerscore, you may sign in to Xbox LIVE one day and discover that we have removed your Gamerscore. Once we do that, you will never be able to re-earn those achievements on that account. Even worse, you might have your account and/or console banned from Xbox Live.

As you can imagine, we know how to find out if you do this and we do take action. And we'll continue to do so.

The best way to increase your Gamerscore or gain that Achievement is to earn it like a real gamer; play the game. Then you can rightly be proud of your Gamerscore as you earned it yourself and not have to worry about anything. I imagine that the majority of you earn your Gamerscore honorably, but I know there are some people out there are may not be as honest. In short: Don't do it. It's not worth it.

Good idea in theory but only if they can be 100% sure whether or not someone has been breaking the conditions.

They aint gonna go through everyones account. There are people on this forum that have done it once or twice they aren't going to risk banning them.

Lets say I have a GS of 30,000 and I gamesaved 1 or 2 games for 2000 points. They won't ban me for that. I've bought more than 30 retail games with that score in under 2 years. They would be nuts to turn away people buying games like that.

If they want to do it let them who cares.

As for account sharing, they can only ban the account if someone steals it after you lend it. If I lend you my account then you give it back they cant prove I havent visited you and reclaimed my account.

Fuss over nothing TBH, why do they even care.

They should have two types of game saves one for getting gamerscores and one for sharing with friends eg using unlocked weapons but this second type doesnt affect your gamerscore. This would enable sharing pes200 optionfiles so we could have decent prem kits!

Bizarre they reckon they can "get you" if you tamper your score but they still can't "get" the people with modded consoles playing pirated games on xbox live.

I don't think they are in control as much as they say, it's just a threat that will scare off the majority of cheaters, the hardcore will still do it.

They can catch you playing modded consoles on live, there is no doubt about that. They do tend to do it in batches, so very often, modded firmwares claim to defeat all checks, but along comes an update, and they could try something different.

It will be the same with the score cheating. They warn first, and then a massive ban hammer swings.

As for why they care, because a lot of people do. They aren't going to go through lots of peoples profiles, they will be automating it and only have a person involved at the final stage. Besides, if a few people cheat it doesn't matter too much, they just want to make it hard enough to stop the vast majority.

Nah I agree with RP2000 that have nothing so they threaten. They banned one batch of modders at the time of forza in june, then they lost the gae of cat and mouse again.

If I lend my GT to say Nokkon to get Tomb raider unlocks there is sod all they can do about it. How do they know I havent gone round nokkons and recovered my tag at his house.

As for game saving thats been going on for 2 years why care now.

The last update made the vast majority of saves available at the time stop working. Just because they don't ban people straight away, don't think they aren't going to. It is how they said it before, and thats what they did. Considering there is the fall update due any day now, I would be worried if I had cheated big time and wanted my points.

It was more of a warning that I could have your gamertag and buy everything off the arcade or from the video marketplace (should it be up) on your account. They didn't say that was bannable, just to be wary of it.

Fair enough but why bother? I understand them going after the modders but who cares with the gamerpoints. If you choose to waste your time making your GT have 250,000 points who cares really other than yourself.

Its not cheating to me because it's not like everyone thinks that makes them the best player in the world.

Does it mean they have to have the disc? Or are they doing this with pirated copies and then using the gamesave? Or is it just highlighting that they are using rips to do it?

They would be better spending time sorting out the hacking rather than worrying about game saves.

They threatened this a few months ago yet Sufoor's gamerscore continues to go up by him using the hypervisor exploit even thou it's blatently obvious he's the biggest gamerscore cheat on live. :o
