what voltage would people be happy putting thru an e2180, or would you just keep raising it until it gets too hot... and would you consider too hot?

i've found references to a max temp of 72 elsewhere on the net but where do get the 1.55v from.

just curious as to how you arrive at that figure. how far generally is it ok to go above the manufacturers recommended voltages?

It's related to temperatures which mean more on air. Above 1.65v and you get CPU over voltage warnings with the E2180.

thanks... i don't think i'll be going that far.

if i went crazy and ramped it up really high i take it my cpu would fry, but would the MB or anything else get damaged?

Aim for 3.5Ghz with 1.45v to 1.55v. There is always a risk with overclocking. But you should be fairly safe with this.

I found this link that contains a table of 21x0 overclocks with various motherboards - includes voltages used and temps. Obviously every rig is slightly different and this needs to be taken with some common sense, but it does provide a useful guide of what should be possible - http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/243437-stable-e21x0-rigs-configuration-thread.html.

I've got to 3.4Ghz so far with my 2180 at 1.5v - Orthos was stable but temps were high around 75c (35-40c at idle)! I've refitted my Tuniq Tower since then and tweaked my fan set up so temps have dropped about 10c. I'm game to try some higher FSB clocks and volts up to 1.6 but I don't see my cpu clocking beyond 3.6GHz stable unless I go for water cooling. Hope this helps.
