I just overtook a car going about 40mph on the coast road near my house... I was going about 62mph, just pulling into my own lane when a cat ran infront of my front driver side tire and got completely Obliterated... Checked the front of my car and half of its body was caught up in the bumper :( Sick. I always brake for cats... This time i couldn't otherwise i would have endangered my own life. I feel so bad.... :(

Try not to worry about it mate, cats always tend to dart across the road as cars come. There was nothing you could have done about it.

Nearly hit two fox's on the way home tonight, was getting a big smokey in the car. Good thing I didn't hit them would have probably taken half the front off.

Also is it true you can't break for a car but you can a dog? How does that plan out over size? Just species?

By law you have to stop for a dog, but not a cat, though I'm sure it may have been amended or if you purposely went out of your way to run it down it wouldn't hold in court.

Can you be a bit more precise, "about 62mph", was that 62.43 or 62.44mph ;)

Sure you cant have done anything about it mate, the girlfriend ran something over a few weeks back, she was really upset, but if you could have avoided it safely im sure you would have done.

:( It happens to most of us eventually, my GF did the same about 3 weeks ago, it was still alive though and being a Vet nurse she decided to put it in the car and take it to her vet practice. Unfortunately the owners decided to put it down anyway :(

There nout worse than hitting or seeing an animal get hit. I was out on a breakdown and an Alsation was running down the path towards us while we were in the van. It then ran out onto the road as we passed and got hit by another Van. flew like 20ft across the road. i felt sick.

can you come round here and run the cat over which insists on leaving paw prints a cat hair all over my car every night?

I keep having an attack of conscience and braking...

Im quite sad to read this :(

And the title of the thread is pretty bad. (not very respectfull)

its one of those things, I hate to see happen in this world. no matter what animal.

Sorry, that was me. I do it on occasion, go out at night, all over the place, with fake cat paws and a bag of cat fur, infuriating drivers all over the world. :p

I've taken down a fox, a pigeon and maybe a cat. The fox went under the car and brained it's self on the sump, so died quickly, which was nice for it, the pigeon went under a wheel and exploded in a could have feathers from the back of the car (I found this the most amusing), and the cat, I think I clipped one as it darted out, but I didn't see a body at all afterwards, it shot out quick so no avoiding.

I also found a bird's wing and leg on my radiator when I took it out, a previous owner had 'caught' a bird in the radiator fan.

Was expecting a thread about a written off Jaguar :) You shouldn't feel bad mate,it happens.

I wouldnt be that gutted about hitting a fox, they are basically rats and i really dont like them because they annoy my cat, a lot. I dont know what i would do if i ran over a cat, i mean i can barely watch the programs on tv with the sad looking cats and dogs, never mind actually kill one. I know how gutted i would feel if something happened to my cat like that, who just happens to be sitting on the bed beside me purring away right now.

Was there enough left to see if the owner had put a tag with a phone number on it?

Our cat got run over a few years ago which was sad but always a risk with cats, really glad that the person who did it took it to the vet. Even though the vet couldn't do anything, at least we knew what had happened and didn't sit at home waiting for him to come back.
