Just curious...

I can get a PNY 8800 for £25 less than a BFG...(not the OC2).

Is it worth the extra or would there be no difference ? Also I do notice that the PNY's are available everywhere, could this be because PNY stocks are easier to get hold of?..or does it suck ?

Thanks

Thanks

One thing, PNY seems to have the following spec-

GPU Speed: 600 MHz

Memory: 512MB

Memory Bit Rate: 256 Bit

Memory Type: GDDR3

Memory Speed: 1500 MHz

Pipelines/Stream Process: 112

Bit confused as OCUK says it runs at 1800... is there more than one PNY 8800GT or does the site where I found that need to check their info

Thanks

Wouldn't worry.

700/2000 is pretty much a gimme.

The new G92 GTS comes out tomo and has the same number of Stream processors as the GTX closing the gap further.:)

Thats the shader clock which is 1500mhz not the memory speed, thats just a typo, its 600mhz Core, 1500mhz Shader, 1800mhz Memory. :)

Nothing wrong with PNY cards, they are the same as any other GT, just the only brands ppl want are BFG/EVGA, even though PNY are the same cards with different pictures on the coolers, which is why Gibbo should only stock those 2x brands, he's just wasting cash on cards no bugger wants, they want the bald headed man with his head in his hands picture or the bluey grey pattern. :p

Don't get the BFG as quite a few including me are having problems, just go for the cheapest

Nothing wrong with me BFG here, all running fine and overclocked too. Mind you, I only got it as it was the only one available at the time, I'd have normally got the cheapest if I had the choice, they all overclock roughly the same, but some inevitably go faster than others.

Thanks

I emailed the unmentionable site in question to enquire about this because I thought it was a discrepancy in the product description but they assured me the memory speed was in fact 1500MHz and not 1800MHz like all the other reference cards. That might explain why they have plenty in stock (and have had for many weeks). It's either that or their sales/marketing department is misinformed.

Checked with PNY and they only produce one 8800GT. Most places list it as 1800 some list it as 1500. I think as LoadsaMoney has pointed out its the shader and memory speeds that people are getting confused with.

I hope anyway, as ordered one on Weekend. In anycase it wouldnt be anything a quick overclock wouldnt sort.

Ahr well the site in question seems to have just updated the info and it now reads -

GPU Speed: 600 MHz

Memory: 512MB

Memory Bit Rate: 256 Bit

Memory Type: GDDR3

Memory Speed: 1800 MHz

:)

Ah makes sense. I wonder how many sales they lost out on because of this little snafu. Oh well, one retailer's loss is another retailer's gain.
