Just saw the hardware sales at vgchartz.com, Nintendo has sold 1.4 million Wii worldwide in the space of 1 week leading up to 22nd Dec, more than PS3 and 360 combined!

DS lite - 2,046,652
Wii - 1,457,872
PSP - 725,370
PS3 - 619,388
360 - 594,520

Erm... only if you're an idiot. You need a lot more information to make that kind of statement.

you dont

its blatently obvious, that the reason the sales have gone up so much is for people buying them as xmas presents. Adults dont generally need to be bought wiis for christmas, because (like me :D) they bought them earlier in the year

theres no doubt that the wii's appeal is to a younger market. Its a less serious console than the PS3 / 360.

Having said that though, thats what makes it so refreshing and enjoying for adults as well !

I'd say the Wii appeals more to the average adult than a 360/PS3 does.

What exactly is a 'serious console' or indeed a 'serious gamer'?

dont come it with that

i own both a Wii and a PS3 and can see the appeal of both. They both appeal to different markets but not exclusively.

As a prime example, you wont find a hardcore racing simulator like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport on the Wii

you're more likely to find Mario Cart or some other less realistic driving game.

really bitter right about now i'd say.

it's a fair question, how can one console be less serious than another? how is that meant, to me nintendo seems to take gaming a lot more 'seriously' than sony and microsoft, as they both seem happy to flood the western market with FPS's which don't do a lot for gaming besides sell.

talking of FPS's, the metroid prime controls are fantastic, my favourite FPS since q3 on the pc and i'm only an hour into it, was my xmas pressie :)

This question deserves a thread all of it's own!!!

My own take would be, someone with a chip on their shoulder and insecurities about their game playing and how it is interpreted by others so feel the need to create a tag to justify/distance themselves from other gamers. They often call themselves "social gamers" as well these days to try to distance themselves further. It always amuses me when I see this.

Come with whaaaa?

I'm genuinely intrigued as to how one differentiates between serious gaming and un-serious gaming. Is there a leaflet?
