I'm thinking of trading in a 360 today but not sure whether its worth it or not...

I have a TV thats 1080p. It accepts 1080i through component and 1080p though HDMI. My 360 doesnt have HDMI.

The 360 upscales DVD though HDMI is that correct?

So I'm thinking of trading in my 2 year old console as either a core without the HD or premium with it.

Trying to justify to myself whether it's worth it just to get HDMI so I can upscale dvds and play 1080p?

My tv only accepts 720 though VGA, tried that already :D

I will either get an elite or HDMI premium.

How big is the TV?

Im not sure you will notice much difference between upscaling a DVD to 720p/1080i and 1080p

If you getting an Elite purely for that reason I'd say it's not worth it.

Its really not worth it danny, you would be hard pushed to tell the difference on a game, and would tell no difference on an upscaled dvd.

Really the TV's 37 inch. I suppose I saw that it was 1080p capable and the ocuk shiny new toy syndrome kicked in :D

So just make do with 1080i?

Through component though it wount be upscaling will it?

Then again I suppose it wont be that long before i'm buying a dual format dvd player.

Current trade in was only £90 core £130 premium too.

You scared for a minute there Danny, I thought you were jacking in the 360!

I'm not sure about upscaling, but is it worth it? Upscaling is still not going to make the image any better (apart from being in the TV's native res).

I also really couldn't see the quality difference between component and hdmi on my TV, though to be fair it's only 1366x768 so it downscales any 1080 signal.

It's not worth it at all, especially since most of the 360 games only do 720p. The only time i'd say go for it is if you had a HD DVD player but tbh you would need a bigger t.v to notice the difference

Bloody shiny toys eh? ;)

Danny, given that your tv is 37", is it even proper 1080p? What resolution is it? I have a 40" sony tv that accepts a 1080p signal, but the resolution is only 1366x768.

If yours is the same, it makes even less sense as you wont be getting proper 1080p anyway.

Ive ran 1080p on my old 55" 1080p tv and ran the same movies and games at 1080i and struggle to see the difference even from about 8 feet on that size of tv, the only place i could really see a difference was using my htpc.

Yeah I have the 37X version of the toshiba it's 1080p but through HDMI.

Although I could be wrong, scart cannot cannot do HD resolutions can it?

hmm, that may be why it looks so bad on an HDTV......i dunno in all honesty

I have a cheapo (tesco actually, it was £30 hehehe) dvd player in my room, connected to a 19" HDTV via scart. I was wondering if getting a cheap DVD with a HDMI connection would result in a better picture.......

With the way you get through 360's, I'd just wait till the next one breaks and you'd get one for fee with your warranty :)

All the AV equipment in my room is black so for me it was a no brainier to ditch to whiteish coloured console with the added bonus of getting a larger HD, HDMI and a cooler running 360 :D

Additionally on my 46" the VGA looked washed out and the component looked not so crisp  HDMI gave the best of both :)

When I got the elite I got a package deal paying only £20 more and getting Assassins Creed, extra wireless controller, Forza 2 and Viva Pinata.

It will upscale DVD's to 720P via VGA if you buy a MS VGA cable for your 360. Unfortunately the Toshiba will only do 1360 x 768 over VGA :( so you wont be able to play games at 1080P. That being said im running my 360 Premium on the 42" version of the Toshiba at 1080P via component, and i'd say it may actually look better via VGA at 1360 x 768.
