i've not noticed it untill now, but lightroom ruins every photo i feed it!
Images come out of my camera sharp, contrasty and vibrant, and after importing them into lightroom, they turn grey, bland and neutral! i can't find any setting in the preferences or Catalogue pref's menu to stop it from doing this!

there needs to be some sort of "i sort-of know what i'm doing, leave my images alone!" option in Lightroom!

does anyone else have this problem or know how to stop it?!

i can see the small thumbnails on the pictures (in lightroom), and after 1 - 2 seconds of displaying them, lightroom processes them and they go all bland and boring!

Yup, thats the camera preset settings being stripped. Probably the easiest way to sort it is to tweak an image to how you want it, save it as a preset then have Lightroom apply that preset on import.

i'd rather it just didn't do it! is there any way i can turn it off?

Your camera probably just shows a JPEG preview (sometimes embedded in the RAW) on the screen. But Lightroom only looks at the RAW.

If you don't want to process your photos don't shoot RAW.

Edit -> Preferences -> Presets -> untick 'Apply auto tone settings'

Done :)

already done. i think i did that when i first installed.

Click menu, exit. Then use Photoshop ;)

if i had £500 to splash around at will, then i probably would. as it happens i don't, and i've already paid for Lightroom, so i'd rather stick with it.

under the preferences/presets have you clicked the reset all default develop setting.

also to right the quick develop on default and lower under metadata the preset on none ,, in case you alrady made a preset to edit on import.

nope, both as you suggested, on default and none respectively.

Does it alter the colour temp along with the image brightness? Mine puts the brightness on 50% and adjusts the toning for some reason. Can't figure out why

having similar issues here..

just done some shooting IR, not done that for a long time. I have a lovely preset WB on my camera and shoot in RAW + basic jpg.

Obviously the WB on the basic jpg is fine, and the raws look fine until i import them in to lightroom, where they look fine and then lightroom ruins them with red.

I know i need to set the white balance to get them back, but it's a faff trying to balance the temp and tint just to get it how it looked before. Is there anyway i can capture the white balance. I have no green on these pictures, and my reference photo is no longer on the camera.

its not a program fault really, i just want it to use the camera raw settings instead of junking things the WB etc
