Time machine question

If I back up my macbook pro with time machine on a external USB drive can I restore it on a imac with no operating system via the time machine on the leopard start up disk. Hope that makes sence.

Ive done it and it works, a clone of my MBP on a iMac

Interesting - I guess that the OSX install has the drivers for all of Apple's hardware then

It probably does, but I don't think the Time Machine restore would go that deep.

I assume it detected a different machine, ignored the drivers and just restored all the system preference files, user data and migrated them over.

Would explain why OS X is a single retail disc for all hardware
