Far East Film Recommendations

Ok so i got 3 months free with Tesco Dvd rental and want to get through as much stuff as i can. I just need some recommendations from you lovely people.

Im interested in some eastern movies, Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc...

Id prefer some stuff thats very anime like or even anime itself. Mainly looking for really awesome action scenes and really cool looking scenes :D

Now i know im coming across as a bit of a noob here, just wanting action, i would prefer not to watch a really crappy plot but if the actions worth it then i dont mind.

So please recommend me some good martial arts, anime or just overall great movies.

OK, I'm going to help here with Asian films that I think are genuinely good, rather than just making a list because I think it's cool.

ahh casshern!

good looking film, but the plot is to strange! it doesnt really make a lot of sense.

The robot fight an hour in is just the sex! so OTT but SO awesome!


also you should watch Infernal Affiars, its an excellent film. Its not the sort of film on your list, but it is definately worth watching
 
It doesn't really fit into the anime or martial arts theme... but I'd recommend Infernal Affairs. EDIT: Ah, I see Deep beat me to it. I second the opinion though. :)

Not exactly what you were after but check out Spirited Away. It's a wonderful, beautifully animated adventure. Such an incredible imagination to create it

Edit: I just checked out Grave of the Fireflies, hadn't heard of it. Read a review saying it's one of the few films to come close to Spirited Away. Promptly added to my Lovefilm rental list :)

One i dont hear mentioned often is Tae Guk Gi. Think a Korean Saving Private Ryan and you've just about got it. It's a bit cheesy in places but well worth a watch.

Personally, Spirited Away is one of Studio Ghibli's more average films. I love Princess Monoke, Grave of the Fireflies, Porco Rosso and Howls Moving Castle.

i've only seen parts of it but my mate whos a film buff liked it so it must be good. and the fight scene is epic !
