It seems that EVERYONE is getting in on this?
I get bombarded nearly every day by some "business directory listings" company that says "I signed up last year and its time for renewal" and yet don't have any real details about me. It seems the basic principle is easy :
1) Set up a simple website, complete with database of companies to search.
2) Import the entirety of yell.com/any other business directory, mark as offline.
3) Ring up each person on the list and claim that they have been with them for a year already, that by adding to their list they will boost their google ranking etc etc.
4) PROFIT.
Now, it doesn't take a moron to see that if you are a small company with bad filing procedures that doesn't necessarily track all of its outgoing, people will get flustered when told "that they registered last year" and simply pay out to continue and not "break anything". But the sales guy should *at least* be able to back up claims that "you had xthousand hits through us and through google because of us"...
