....now really was Sony so stupid to include blu-ray in it's PS3. I think not.

Makes no real difference to me now blu ray has caught up featurewise.

It's just a shame the choice of format was made by studios not consumers.

that's alright, the better format won in the end. most consumers would have (wrongly) chosen hd-dvd anyway, i believe.

Well if having a failing console games wise and loking like they will never make money on it - yes they were wrong ;)

a poor games lineup aside, there is nothing to suggest the console is failing. nothing at all.

Blu ray is the better format now (although I'm still not fond of compulsory drm), but only after two revisions which wouldn't have happened without competition.

If we had been stuck with profile 1 that would have been bad imo.

I'm just glad johnnyfive shouldn't have an excuse to post any more useless fanboy threads.

I couldn't give a rats which format won. I own both formats, and will buy HD-DVDs until the supply dries up.

profile 2 was always in the pipeline. but we've already had this discussion before - it was always the better format weather it supported an internet connection or picture in picture or not:)

We've had the discussion before, we just disagree on what makes the 'better' format and for whom.

I could ask those with non-upgradeable 1.0 players vs early hd adopters...

like i said, profile 2 was always in the pipeline. the highest capacity, most flexible and most future proof format won. Your opinion is that DL content, pip and managed copy made hd-dvd the better format. my opinion is that the technically better format IS the better format. the content should come second to the main feature. i dont personally know anybody who would buy films solely for its extras. as for early adopters well, there are always casualties when it comes to early adopters. you take your chances. there's nothing hd-dvd can do that bluray can't do now, even managed-copy which as it seems means nothing to anybody except you lol. its not really about early adopters any more, is it?

and besides, those with early 1.0 players will still be playing the movies. how important picture in picture and downloadable content is to them isn't my place to say.

as a side note, lets get a hell yeah as to just how good the DL content on heroes disc 2 is on hd-dvd? anybody tried it? fails to work most of the time on a 360 - you have to go clearing caches before it'll work. sometimes it takes 30 minutes () or more before the disc even starts (IF it starts), and i couldnt even get it working at all on my pc. i wasnt the only one either. whats the biggest problem with that? the disc insists on downloading the content BEFORE you do anything. ie, watch the episodes. so you cant even do that lol.

Actually, my opinion was based on how the rights of consumers and the studios were balanced by the different formats. Pip is nice, but not a major thing, nor is interactive content. Mandatory managed copy was not a part of blu ray at all until fairly recently. Given the ongoing laws making circumventing drm illegal, managed copy is a good future idea for the consumer. It's a shame about the region coding and mandatory drm though.

I guess the only question now is how long will it take for BlueRay to take over from DVD completely? If it ever does that is....

Quick question as someone who has wanted to invest in a high-def set up am I right in thinking that BlueRay players do play standard DVD's? Would be a real pain in the ass to have to rebuild my collection from scratch if I did take the plunge
