Decided to buy an E8400 and test it on my Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Rev 1.0 (Bios F13o)

I've had a few problems which i'll try to explain below, but I now seem to have it stable (not orthos tested yet) at 4.0Ghz using 1.265 volts and a Zalman 9500.

I tried reseting the bios and installing the E8400, but this resulted in a non-boot. Instantly knew i had a problem as the USB keyboard had no power and could not get anything on the monitor. After trying everything I could think of, I reinstalled my E6600 and booted. This then allowed me to boot and set the Bios about where I needed it, including volts to 1.2650. I then installed the E8400 and this booted fine. Having tweaked the Bios a few times, 444FSB seems to be okay.

The temps seem a little high (CoreTemp:- 50c @ idle and 63c @ load). Will report a bit more detail when i've had a chance to play..

SuperPi was about 12.2secs, but my ram is very slack whilst I test the CPU limits.

UPDATE: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND WOLFDALES WITH GA-965P-DS3 AT PRESENT

Cheers

After several tries, it appears that the 965P-DS3 is not going to be stable enough for me. If a boot failure occurs the Mobo reboots with default settings, but these settings do not allow the wolfdale to boot.

Sold the E8400 last night (within 5 mins !!), so MUD will now be getting a toy.

I hope you flashed both bioses to the F13o? I have a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 Rev 1.0 running the equivalent beta bios (F11f) with my E8400, and although from cold boot it seems to do a restart or two before kicking off the bios properly, it seems to retain the ovcerlock settings and always works with my e8400, though i suspect it is booting to the second bios. It sounds to me like yours was doing the same but maybe your second bios was still running a previous version it wasn't booting with the wolfdale onboard.

Something interesting to note is that i have similarly high temperatures reported by coretemp, and although i'm not convinced my reseating of my Scythe Ninja Plus when i put the E8400 in was particularly clean, this does make me thing there is an anomally with the reported temps running in our P965 mobos.
