Ok I first played stalker on release and couldnt get over the weapons where it was impossible to hit anything.I feel like going back to it now, were things improved with patching?Has a mod been created that makes aiming fair? Thanks in advance

patches get the patches, also crouch and iron sights ***, and get the mod which opens up attachment slots, so you can put silencers scopes and gl's on the weapons they supposed to go on.

I've just finished it:) Still got blurry eyes:eek:
Patch up and enjoy!
I seem to remember using a repair mod. Think it also enables the vendors to sell all armours and weapons etc.
Im going to replay it fully modded up. Obviously can't comment on mods as I have'nt played them yet!!
Great game and endings.............

nice idea, and wouldve been better if a proper company produced it, not enough thought was given to details like ammo, health and aiming. imho the patches dont make it much better.

Why not enough thought regarding ammo and aiming. It uses a lot of physics in the firing, mavity, wind, and surfaces etc. And these depend on the weapon and ammo used as well. IMO that is a lot more effort than most companies place in such things.

a. For the amount of ammo you get compared to enemies thiers no where near enough, and im not gonna waste hours on end circling and hiding around bad guy, i can do that in real life getting home from the pub.

b. The ai can survive 2 full clips of pistol ammo, thats enough to take out a rabid bear! a human just couldnt take that! i.e. Unrealistic!

humans take 1-2 decent aimed shots, or 3-4 in the chest, if your just spraying clips your only going hit once or twice.

and as for ammo I always had a couple of dozen rounds spare, and always a shotgun or something with a load of ammo in back up.

humans take way, way more than 3-4 shots and you also reminded me, the random respawning of ai is beyond ridiculous!

they never did when i played it, unless they had some good armour, the exo suits did take ridiculous amounts of ammo unless you got head shots.

Survive 2 full clips? Your aiming must suck :p.

I can drop most with 1 or 2 well placed rounds. Like i said, you have to compensate for the mavity depending on distance, and also wind can affect it, just not as much.

Regarding respawning? Could you imagine how bad it would be if they didn't respawn. The place would be like a Ghost Town with nothing to do except walk free and look out for anomalies.

Well since you have to advance further in the game and face more badguys, it'd seem more realistic than the dead rising all the time.

Once you get the AK47 type weapon with a scope on it, aiming becomes a lot easier and unless you a total noob at aiming, there's nothing hard about it.

Before you get this, it's best to avoid the military personnel and stick to stealthier tactics. You also have to know the limits of your weapon; shooting a pistol from a mile away is obviously stupid, so don't even try it!

I find near the beginning the double barreled shotgun is the best weapon, but requires that you bring your enemies upclose to you before you fire.

Also learn how the enemies behave when you shoot them. I find that frequently they "stumble" slightly when you shoot them, which triggers a certain animation where they can't shoot momentarily. During this moment it's best crouch and take a clear shot at their head as they are about to return to a firing position (move closer to them if you have to).

Vintar BC ~ Once you get that, it's pretty much single headshot heaven for you. :D It still takes skill though, because at long distance you have to compensate for bullet drop and bullet speed. The larger sniper rifles don't suffer from these problems as much.

you can drop those military at the start with a 1-2 pistol shots to the head, course if you hit them with the bad bullets in the armour it will soak them up pretty well but then... aim for the head.

go for headshots, crouch if need be but it will drop the enemy easily. if you spray and pray you wont get anywhere. use the special ammo types if your facing particularly suited up enemies and as titanium says, learn the animations. i always have plenty of ammo and finished the game without having a major problem with such, be smart with your weapon picks (viper at the beginning, tend to avoid the SA80 later on etc) and your fine.

The initial weapons are rubbish and are supposed to be innacurate, it's not a bug. It's not long before you get improved weapons though, and the pistol is quite accurate. Even the worst weapons, it's still easy to hit if you use short bursts, the kick is the big problem not the accuracy. And as said above if you get close enough always go for headshots. If you don't play it you're missing probably the best game of last year.

Number of hits to kill enemies is always the achilles heel of fps I feel.
Too many bullets required = whining.
Too few = complaints about it being too hard as obviously you take less hits as well.
I thought STALKER well balanced regarding number of hits, accuracy and ammo available etc.
As mentioned get a Vintar BC and its headshots all the way for the rest of the game.
I think maybe what could be added is 'sploding gibs when enemies take a shotgun hit at point blank to the guts:D

Ive just started it again... finally with all the patches... everything on full and res of 1920 x 1200 = smooth FPS and the game feels 100x better than it did at release!!!

GOOD STUFFF!!!!... Im just playing with the latest patch. Is there anything else i need to make the game seem better?

Im not looking for mods but for patches/fixes that make the game better?
