Schmoke and a Pancake?

Yer the guy's a member on the gti6 forum (ex owner), does a really good job, would definately recommend him. :)

That car minged hard though. Never let people smoke in my car.

Sick, I never understand why people smoke in cars or houses or even smoke at all, disgusting habit.

Great job though.

See, I'm no lover of this "detailing" lark, but I can really appreciate the effort and time that has taken to do and the results are excellent.

But it's all this:

"The car was a mass of bonded contaminates "

"The car is single stage red paint which the PTG readings seemed to suggest was all original, although the passenger wing and door were probably off another vehicle or a later repair replacement as they looked noticeably less oxidised but of a similar thickness)
General thickness varied between 80 and 110 which for single stage was quite good. The gauges used were my CM8828 and Steve’s Positector DFT.

Here’s a few pictures under the light of the EP200 Mk1"

"a large number of bird etchings"

"Steve had brought with him an Elcometer 121 Paint Inspection Gauge and we spent some time looking at the paint defect present under the microscope to learn a little about the condition of the paint work we were intending to restore."

"We had at our disposal a vast array of different products in order to restore the finish, we had planned to achieve the best possible finish on this paint and in order to do this we arranged for a trial loan of a gloss meter to take personal perception away from the equation."

"Beading was also impressive"

I don't know why, but I can't read stuff like that and keep a straight face. They're polishing a grubby N reg Astra. Okay, it took them 3 days but it's still just polishing an old Astra, albeit using very expensive products.

Each to their own I suppose!

Agree with Lopez, but then again it's no more "sad" than overclocking your PC or being into any other hobby. Still, I don't think I could admit to any person in real life that I spent 3 days washing my car :p

Yeah 3 days and all them products is overkill on an Astra IMO. Looks good afterward but its still an old Astra at the end of the day. I really do think going to that extent on a decentish car is worth it as it looks so much better afterward and is also much easier to clean and keep looking good thereafter.

I'm going to get a rotary and polish my Focus in the summer, i think I'll leave the gloss meter and Elcometer 121 Paint Inspection Gauge out though :D.

To be fair, the only reason the Astra was used was they needed a car which would give decent results to test the products on, it could have been anything.
