Striker Extreme 1503 BIOS.

Anyone tried it yet? Found a couple of threads on here but all about SLi issues.

How's the overclocking for quads?

I'd be very interested in any comments or findings :)

Hi,

First post and all, go easy :)

I've been trying 1503, for me it did strange things. how? you say, well for one it wouldn't save certain overclock settings - like if you went to the AI overclock settings (yeah i know, no self respect oc'er goes near it) you could set it to say 5%, save, and go back and it wouldn't be there..

I know it's just one persons opinion, but it just didn't seem 'right' if you know what I mean, somedays it would be stable, some days it wouldn't, weird.

Anyway out of curiosity/desparation I upgraded to the 1504 bios thats doing the rounds on the ASUS boards. This imo is a pretty good bios, this is what I can get to at the moment:

I've since wimped out a bit and backed it off a touch as the temps were running a little warm for me (56-58 oC across the cores) but it's running sweet as a nut on 3.4GHz at the mo. I'm no overcloking expert tho I think i'm getting there, any suggestions welcome and all that...:)

Sys specs:

Q6600 2.4Ghz
Zalman CNPS9500A cooler
2 Gb Geil DDR2 Ultra RAM @ 5-5-5-18
BFG 8800GTS 320MB
Vista 64bit Ultimate

Cheers,

Muddy..

Hi mate, and a warm welcome to the OcUK Forums! :)

Well, I've learnt something from your 1st post! I didn't know there was a 1504 BIOS. The Asus site lists 1503 as the latest. so I'd be keen to try it out too. Do you have a download link for it?

Interestingly 400 (1600) X 9 was a FSB "Hole" (meaning it simply won't work stabily)on previous BIOS releases. I've been getting 3.6GHZ with 450 (1800) X 8 Multi.

Running like a dream - best BIOS so far for the Striker with my current findings:

1504.jpg

Everything at default voltages with the exception of:

CPU VTT @ 1.5V
NB @ 1.5V

Clocking much higher with less voltage!

And as for this Muddy:

Hi, First post and all, go easy :).............

You did good mate. Thanks for your clearly valuable input.

Cracking 1st post! :D

Howdy,

Thanks for the kind words, glad you like the the new bios :) looks like yours is running very nicely at 3.6GHz, with a good show in 3D Mark too! I'm taking it that your 'puter is better cooled than mine :) What is a safe temp for these chips? I may have to break out the water cooling soon.

1504 will hopefully proove to the masses how good the Striker can be. "Life in the 'ol dog yet" I belive the phrase is..

Cheers,

Muddy

H20 mate - spent last hour on COD 4 maxed out 1680 X 1050 = hottest core 51 degrees. Nothing to worry about until the late 60's / early 70's mate.

I recon we should see how far we can push these quads now we have a decent BIOS. :D

I'll have a clocking session tomorow evening and report back here mate.

Hi mate - yeah read that - been on 1303 for ages @ 450 (1800) X 8 for a while due to the hole at 400 FSB on the 1303 BIOS (and most of the other previous BIOSes for that matter. Ran at 3.6GHZ but sometimes a little flaky....no major crashes but could only achieve this clock with boat loads of various voltage adjustments.

Left it priming all night and its still running sweet this morning! :D

Happy days!

Pushing further tonight.....stay tuned :)

I've been clocking this Striker since the 900 series BIOS it came with and can honestly say I think Asus have finally got somewhere near to getting it right. Looks like the Striker Extreme can live upto its original hype.

A 1.4GHz overclock with minimal vcore increase can't be bad.

Its clocking a lot higher, more stabily and with a lot less voltage :)

Will prime overnight.
