New 8800 GTS may be causing my PC to crash

Last week I purchased a 8800 GTS and since then while gaming I have had a bout 6 crashes. Most are accompanied by a blue screen with the 'IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' message. This is happening with the card running at stock. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

^ lol. i can suggest the 174.93 drivers... work COMPLETELY stably in my system... I think i've had about 2 or 3 blue screens with them for the week i've been using my GT.

all crysis related...

Thanks.

I will download these when I get home. Odd that the latest beta drivers listed on the NVIDIA site are the 174.74's.

The games I have been playing with my new card have been STALKER, LOTRO and Vanguard (please don't hold this against me as I'm just trying it out again - call it curiosity)

Is your CPU overclock Prime stable?
I have not run Prime as my overclock has been stable for the past year - my PC very rarely crashed while gaming. The blue screen has only been around since installing the GTS a week ago so it has to be a graphics card issue. It may also be the power supply that is on the way out as my Tagan has worked hard for the last 4 years.

I have not sorted out the crashing as I am unable to install any of the beta drivers as they all get the same error message at the unpacking stage of the installation 'the contents of this file cannot be unpacked as the data is corrupted' I do not know what the hell is going on as I have tried 3 different beta drivers from various sites.

I would like to add that for the first day or 2 of running this card I did not have any crashes and that these crashes now occur about an hour and a half into a game. I am also running XP.

Anyone have anymore ideas as to what the problem is as this is the first time I've had an issue with a graphics card. I think I may have received a card with faulty memory - would I be able to RMA it?

Well you need to check your overclock with prime as the new card may be putting more load on your cpu/memory and causing it to crash.

It's just a thought but I wonder if your old PSU may also be struggling with the extra power needed by the system with the introduction of the new GPU. Have you got lots of hard drives, usb devices and CD drives etc?

I got 'IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' BSOD when overclock testing my CPU when I overclocked too far with too little voltage which is also why I asked if the system was stable.

The PSU is fine I think, I run my system with a 485W Enermax and at max stress the load isn't even close to 400W.

@saguy, I would at least run Stress Prime 2004 or Orthos (both are Prime variants) to at least see if the sytem is relatively stable, if it fails within seconds something is wrong or run a memory tester like Memtest or MemTest86+ just to rule out your system.

The PSU should be fine as I have run the same setup with a heavily overclocked 8800GTS 640MB which uses more power at stock than the new GTS. It still may be the power supply as I used it constantly for the last 4 years and nothing lasts for ever.

I have just got home from work so I will run prime and memtest.

How's vanguard doing these days? sorry it's off topic but I just wondered
I have not played it much as only re-subscribed 3 days ago. I am on the European server and the starter area is a fairly lonely place. Runs a lot better than it did at launch (I quit after the first month) but stills needs a lot of PC power relative to the graphics it produces. Graphics are still nice for a MMO. I have not grouped yet as the there is no one around at my lowly level. The game would have done OK if it was launched in its current state as they would have kept enough subscribers to invest in the game.

I only resubscribed out of curiosity, but I am still keeping an open mind.

I have been running Orthos for the last hour and a half and no problems so it is most likely the graphics card or it could still be the power supply.
