I've been looking at HDMI cables and they range in price.
Some can be had for £10 and some are like £80 !

Do the expensive ones do something the average price ones dont?

At the moment i have a £10 1.2metre HDMI cable connecting my PS3 to my Sammy LCD. Im looking at moving my PS3 further away from the TV so will need a cable which is around 3/4metres long.

Should i get an expensive one or an averagely priced one?

Think about them like USB cables - as long as the cable isn't actually broken it will give no problems. If you're doing a long length ( > 10m) you might want to get a higher quality one...

if your cable works then stick with, hdmi is digital so they either work or they dont, I did back to back tests with a £5 and a £50 cable, there was absoloutly no difference at all

YUOR WRONG, What hi-fi said cheap cables are crap and that you must by kimber and cryo treated cable as they said the picture is miles better 11111

The above statement is rubbish, follow kidlocos advice :D

LOL its amazing how What Hi-Fi havent been sued over the rubbish they spout with digital cables.

its a joke, unfortuntly I got suckered in by all this many years ago, just as I was getting into audio gear, I splashed out on my first half decent setup and needed a optical cable. idot here picked up what hi-fi and promptly ordered a QED opticle cable costing over £50. since then I have realised the error of my ways, especally after swapping the above mentioned cable for one costing 99p that made absolutly no differance to the sound at all.

I bought a 5m cable from ebay for a tenner....actually looks pretty decent from the looks of the cable, of course, what they say in the description is probably rubbish and i am not really taken in by it....but it works so i am happy:

My cousin's have a PS3 and brought a cheap HDMI cable (it is like see through blue plastic rubbish) and the ends are falling off and it was all taped up, still worked (this shows how they either work or don't, and also how crappy cheap ones can be in terms of build quality and durability, I say go for a semi well known brand at least). That said the power cable barely fit into the back of the PS3 and kept falling out mid-game.

I know a good site for HDMI cables ie I bought an 11m one from them for £22.95 - as they are not strictly speaking an Ock compeditor is it ok to mention them here?

I pooped myself when I saw a HDMI cable advertised online that said it offered "deeper blacks"

They might have been referring to the v1.3 HDMI standard which does offer better black reproduction I believe but this is down to the kit at either end supporting the standard - the cable is still the same and still irrelevant :)
