so i get gta4 and red ring in one day

:(. I never even got to see it, switched the 360 on and have the RROD. Its 2.5 years old and I have lost the receipt. Do I have any hope of it getting fixed by MS? :(

awesome. i feel slightly better now. I can't wait 2 weeks thou, think I will invest in a elite tomorrow then sell mine when i get it back. Thanks for the help!
 
Im still on my launch console, just know its going to red ring like 2 days after the 3 years are up :(

Bad luck with yours, can't imagine a worse game for it to do it on :(
 
Feel sorry for you. As said before, 3 year warranty on these things so get it send off to MS. Should'nt take long as a guy at work had his back just over 5 working days.
 
Mine is 2 years and a month old, been abused (not literally hit, just left in hot dusty rooms on thick carpet etc) and is still going strong, until I came home from school today. I had taken GTA out of my Xbox and locked it up in the safe deposit box to stop my brother playing it on my profile (I got special edition as they weren't taking pre orders for normal when I ordered). I came home today having borrowed a headset off my friend (I've had 4 and stopped playing Live for the last year so didn't need one til now) to find my DVD drive wasn't opening. I yanked it loads and pulled off the bezel and then eventually it opened. I pulled it out a bit when it was open and it seems to work now. I just thought when it wasn't opening "**** sake, only had it a day and my 2 year old Xbox decides to die now". Anyway the DVD has been making weird sounds but seems to still open, I'm not sending it back until either the 3 years are nearly up, or there is no way I can play GTA. The drive seems to be on the way out and I wouldn't mind a HDMI console, just it had to come at such an annoying time. Also, it wasn't 3 red lights but surely they would have had to replace my console as if it hadn't opened I wouldn't have been able to use my console anymore, and it's obvious the first consoles had problems with dodgy drives, being loud, unreliable and scratching discs.

Mine was 2.5 years old too. Perfect excuse to get a HDMI model now though :p

1 year warranty, 3 years 3 RQOD replacement. You also would never get a HDMI replacement.
