Wanting to buy a new monitor. Have around £200, but if a really good one is £20 more happy to pay that.

I'd like it to have 3000:1 CR and 2ms response time. I was looking at around 22". I am going to trawl through loads of reviews, but would really appreciate if anyone can help me shortcut that process a bit.

Thanks a lot.

yep, the 226Bw and 2232BW are just different designs for the same screen really. Both would be good choices given the requirements and budget

Also consider the 206BW which is the 20" version. I went for this over the 22" (which my bro has) cos it is the same resolution but the pixels are smaller so a sharper image, just my 2cents

Cheers Creed. I'd definitely consider going down to 20". Been reading as much stuff as I can over the past couple of hours. My concern now has turned to viewing angles over response times.

While a bit of ghosting will annoy me, it would be nothing in comparison to how a bad viewing angle would annoy me. All of the monitors I posted above have TN panels, which have poor viewing angles by all accounts :(

But that only matters if there is more than you looking at the screen?

the samsungs have a panel lottery where you might not get one of the better samsung panels, the iiyama has a guaranteed samsung panel. I have it and its a fine monitor.

check out this review of a number of 22" included viewing angles etc:-
http://www.behardware.com/articles/689-1/22-inch-lcd-monitors-the-3rd-wave.html - sorry i fixed the link now

taken from the review:-
Fortunately, with the Iiyama by changing brightness to 79, contrast to 30, red to 94, green to 91 and blue to 98 ; the average falls to 3.6 and with a significant improvement to the naked eye. This means the grade goes from a C+ to a B- which is much better.

i have a b1 & my mate opposite has a b2 tbh i cant tell the difference the B2 has a 3000:1 ratio.

As i think gibbo said in another post, anything over 1000:1 isnt really true it is dynamic and even the best monitors will only be about 850-900:1 contrast ratio (this may have changed with the new samsung rose monitors at 20,000:1 so correct me if so).

Regarding the viewing angle, whether lower, higher or across the other side of the room to my samsung 206BW the viewing is clear and bright tho obviously when in using i am only 2ft away from it ;)

Does the Samsung 22" CW have the lottery as well? Is it worth spending an extra 30-50 quid on that model as compared with the BW?

I personally would either go with a 20 or a 24" monitor...

I currently have a 19" Iiyama CRT. I know 20 & 22 use the same resolution but I really want a slightly bigger monitor than a 20. 24 is way out of my price range. Most are around 400+, although the OC one is the cheapest, but I haven't read up enough on that as of yet

You can get a 24" with a VA panel for your budget, there's a huge thread about the OCUK one, read up on it.

i believe all samsungs have the lottery except the real high end ones as they are made in several places demand is so high they have to use other panels but please correct me on this^^

the iiyama in my opinon is better than the samsung check out the review i posted

I've read up on the Iiyama model and it does sound decent. Obviously not as attractive as the samsung but thats only a side issue really. Just have to make up my mind now between buying that or taking the plunge and buying the 24" OC model. Just after reading in that thread about multiple issues with noise, bleed and having to return them is putting me off at the moment.

The iiyama and the samsung 226bw are identical looks wise, with the exception that the samsung has an round/oval base stand and the iiyama is rectangular, also the buttons on the bottom right are slightly different but thats it (in the above review they put the monitors side by side on the "the winner is page"). In my opinion you wont go wrong with the iiyama however if you will be sitting on weird angles like a TV screen then i would say the 24" VA would be better, but the iiyama would be faster ref. input lag, although this is a grey area and tbh i dont think u would notice 10ms :)

the CW is the same as a BW but you get the best panel, which you may or may not get with the BW, but afaik the BW doesnt use the most rubbish panel anymore (after august last year) my BW is top notch and i couldnt think of anyway £50 would make it better unless it was to go to a 24".
