Daniel K provides the Prelude's DDLive encoding for the entire x-fi range

Just tried this and it seems to work perfectly with MP3s, might try some games later if I find some time (damn revision!).

Very handy for me as my speakers only have digital in (optical/co-ax) and stereo analogue in so this is the only way I can get 5.1 in games :)

Yes but this means that there will be no need to buy the Xifi2 boards that add DDL over the original board.:D

Creative aren't adding these features as they are trying to force you to upgrade the sound card to there latest and greatest. It isn't that they don't know that it can be done or how to do it.

excuse my ignorance james, what does this do (DDL?)

I've got my xfi -> z5500, connected via coax (multi jack adaptor) & 6channel direct (3x audio cables) so can test whatever...

You'll basically get the same as you would over the 6 channel direct via the single cable. Debatable whether it'll be any better; it's a digital signal so you won't get any noise along the cable, but at the same time it's not a lossless compression format. You'll also introduce marginally more CPU usage and slight latency with the DDL.

Only really worth it if you find you get a lot of interference through analogue or you want a single cable solution.

Any chance someone can fire up a game and see if it works, would be very interested to see if i can send DD encoded signals to my Onkyo 605 for games

CSS works fine but I seem to have having a whole load of issues with Company of Heroes and TF2...probably my system but I don't know as I haven't tried them in ages.

sorry didnt get an email notification for some reason. yep phil said it all lol. DDLive encoding is great if you card doesnt have decent analogue outputs or you suffer from noise as phil said. ideally, quality analogue outputs are better than DDLive by quite some way if you have the equipment to hook it up to.

It was a system issue as expected, got them working now but again, haven't had time to play them. Tried NFS:Carbon and had a few sound stutters but they also co-incided with the video slowing as well...I did have the settings fully maxed out though which was probably a little too much for my 3800+ X2 and 8800GT though :p

Will try a proper test with TF2/COH and maybe BF2 if I've got the disk with me here tonight if I have time around revision :)
