I've got my 4870 and I thought it would be nice to have a thread similar to that of Big.Waynes.. but for the 4870 :D.

Allthough unlike Big.Wayne I havent done any benchmarking yet as I've just installed it and its time for dinner, but it would be good to see benchmarks from 4870 users and NV users too preferably using GTX280/260 or 9800GTX.

For other games apart from Crysis you should use fraps, to do this just tick the boxes in fraps to record Min Max and average, the results can be found in the installation folder of fraps.

Would be good to see benchmarks in games like the following:

Crymark07
Assasins Creed
GRID
Mass Effect

Benchmarks:
3DMark06
3DMark Vantage

Without AA and with 8xAA @ 1680x1050 of course.

I'll also use this post to post my experience of the HD4870 in full once I'm settled with it and also put my video/s up and benchmarks in Crysis @ 1680x1050, very high, dx10 and 1680x1050, high, DX9 and 8xAA then I'll proceed to bench 3DMark06 @ 1680x1050 and with and without AA and then do some overclocking.

Crysis:
1680x1050, DX9, All High, 8xAA: 33.5FPS
1680x10508xaahigh.jpg

1680x1050, DX10, All Very High, No AA: 25.1FPS
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/thehub/1680x1050veryhighdx10.jpg

1680x1050, DX9, All High, No AA: 43.5FPS
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/thehub/1680x1050noaa.jpg

1280x1024, DX9, All High, No AA: 54.1FPS An overclock to 790/1000 increases this to 56.6.

I'm pretty pleased with Crysis results even if its slightly underperforming!, I'll be trying it in XP soon and trying more games too.

CSS, 1680x1050, 8xMSAA, 16xAF, All High: 344FPS

Everquest 2

Just last night before I went to sleep I tried EQ2, and at 1680x1050 I ran the settings at high, or near the highest one, the second one from the top, anyway this was a lag fest with any card I have had before, 8800GTS 640, 2900XT, 8800GT and my old X800XTPE, but with this card its almost smooth, its very playable, it still has stutters but its a massive improvement over the other cards!, I dont quite know if everyone has this problem in EQ2 but I'm glad I can have some of the eye candy turned on now, apparently EQ2 is very CPU dependant and does things that it could do on the GPU?

I was seeing the frame rate go to 50+ with a minimum of about 25 compared to the GT that went into the teens.

Thanks
Willz.

Nice One Wills! :)

1680x1050 + HD4870 mummy! :p

MiNxYyY probably better to keep to the other thread, apples vs apples and all that! (makes it easier for people to compare results etc).

DELETE ME PLS

Jealous much?

Not really. I have a GTX280. I'm more confused at what you get out of this than anything else.

Look, if you want to 'stick it to us all' or whatever else it is you think you're doing, then run 3dmark06 and vantage and submit your results to the ORB. Far more difficult to forge than a screenshot, and you will be able to directly compare the result to other systems.

I'll be posting all my results in the top post.

And please lets not get this thread ruined with flame wars.

Thanks.

*shrug*

You wouldn't be the first to try to pump themselves up on the internet, for whatever reason.

Post a validated result, such as from 3dmark ORB, and everyone (including me) will get off your back and apologise. Until then - live and die by your posts.

Added Crysis benchmarks, yes crysis, I'll do other games later.

GPU is at stock and CPU at 3.4 and Vista 64, going to install XP later.

Great results Will! :)

Considering that is running on Vista which afaik runs a bit slower than XP *and* you are using High Quality with 8x AA I'm impressed!

Might be worth loading up the game and playing it for 10-20mins to get a feel for things a bit better, there is no way in the past you could run high quality with 1680x1050 res and x AA! . . .Awesome

hi will hub,

ccc options have not been changed at all
xp mce with black vipers safe services tweak applied (no other apps running)
stock 4870
stock q6600 2.4

personally im a bit dissapointed in the 4870 as i was hopeing to be able to play cod4 smoothly at 2560x1600

with at least 2x aa 16af, but it might be just me expecting to much.

anyway here are my benches

3d mark06 (demo so at 1280x1024) : 12908

all on high, 1680x1050 directx9 gpu benchmark

CryMark07 patch 1.1 without aa :oa fps 43.94
CryMark07 patch 1.1 with 2xaa :oa fps 35.73
CryMark07 patch 1.1 with 4xaa :oa fps 30.22
CryMark07 patch 1.1 with 8xaa :oa fps 35.72

i really dont get the last one tried it twice same result (see below) i set aa in the game and in the crysis bencmark tool, rebooted as well? im using crysis benchmarking on xp (retail build-5879) not sure if that makes a difference? if you send me the link to witch tool you are using ill run it again.

Min FPS: 13.87 at frame 148, Max FPS: 42.57 at frame 1003
Average Tri/Sec: -33629392, Tri/Frame: -937875
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -0.98
TimeDemo Play Ended, (3 Runs Performed)

Sorry to butt in but do you think a 4870 qill be wasted on a E2140@3GHZ and 2 gig of ram. I'm running win xp and game at 1280x1024. I currently have a 8800GT. I'm thinking I might get some money for my GT while I can and put the difference towards a 4870.

Help me make a decision please. What do you think I should do?

With Grid and Assasins creed use Fraps and use the benchmarking tool, infact I'll put that in the top post for anyone wanting to bench.

Looking good, our results are very similar ZardoZ.

No I dont think it will be wasted, my CPU is a dual core at 3.4, I'm running at a higher res yea but as you can see at 1280x1024 in crysis its 6-10fps faster than a heavily overclocked 8800GT.
