Originally scheduled to launch in November or December this year, Intel's Nehalem-based Bloomfield processors will now launch in September along with X58 chipsets, sources at motherboard makers have revealed.

However, the sources pointed out that CPUs and motherboards will not officially appear in the channel until early October.

Since Bloomfield CPUs are not socket compatible with previous Intel platforms, the accelerated launch is not expected to cause competition between the company's own products, although the same cannot be said for AMD's scheduled AM3-based CPU launch, noted the sources.

Great news, just 2.5months until we can buy X58 boards and bloomfield cpu's:)

do you upgraders buy retail versions of windows or is vista not as sringent at blocking OEM versions.

I see many people on these boards upgrading their Mobos several times and wondered how it's done (unless a retail OS is bought?)

Well you can cheat the OEM version easily if you're into that, i have a retail version so i won't have to deal with that :)

This definitely settles my RAM/Mobo trubles, no point in buying 2x2 GB or a new mobo now, just hope DDR3 will drop a bit more before Nehalem.

Would it be fair to say then that this is a bad time to be doing a full upgrade? (motherboard, CPU, maybe memory).

Surely the early X58 boards will be pretty average, as will the CPUs? I bought an almost-release day ES E6700 Core 2 Duo and whilst it overclocks nicely it needs sub-zero cooling to do it, whereas the current chips are easier I think?

I won't be moving until there's mATX boards anyway, and I reckon that'll take until 2009 for suitable chipsets to appear.

Can't play with a shiny new PC if you don't have somewhere to plug it in ;)

Don't forget the DDR3 as well! (I assume it's a DDR3 only chipset?)

DDR3 aint that expensive anymore, £153 for OCZ 4GB DDR3 1333MHZ 7-7-7-20 which overclocks to 1600mhz with around 7-7-7 timings. Corsair 1333MHZ 9-9-9 for £130. Plus ddr3 will be a lot cheaper by the time x58 is out as nforce 790i and x48 ddr3 boards will sell a fair bit by then.

The joys of having work related reasons to have a PC at home, meaning work supply the licenses i require via MVLS :D

you can lie and say your motherboard went faulty and had to be replaced, dont know if they check how many times you have done it though

At current prices heres my guesswork, supply & demand may dictate DDR3 may go up in price!!
