What's a good overclocking board for Q6600 GO these days?

Hi,

What's the best overclocking motherboard to go with the following spec:

Lian-Li PC-A77B
Q6600 GO (lapped)
TRUE (lapped) + SFLEX 1600
8800GT + Accelero S1
Areca ARC-1680
Vista Ultimate x64

Other requirements
  • 2 x PCI-E x16 slots, with at least 8 lanes enabled on the 2nd slot
  • Optical-out
  • Good layout
  • Plenty of 3-pin fan headers
I'm upgrading from an Abit IP35 Pro; currently achieving 3.42GHz prime stable (380x9). I feel the CPU has room for a bit more speed but am limited by PWM temps.

I'm actually upgrading for a completely different reason but I won't go into that here.

There's quite a few in that range. Is there a quick overview of the differences anywhere?

Well the cheapest one (PQ5) only has 1 x PCI-E x16 slots. I need a 2nd slot for my Areca RAID controller.

The next one up (PQ5 Pro) doesn't have optical digital out, it's coaxial.

Checking the others out...

OK looks like the P5Q-E does everything I need but I'll probably go for the Deluxe.

Do you know what speed the 2nd PCI-E x16 slot will run at with my Areca card in it, 4x or 8x?

Also what do the X38/X48 boards offer over the P45 Deluxe?

I've only been away from the forums a few months and can't tell what's what anymore!

With the x38/x48 boards both PCI-e slots run at x16 whereas on the p45's when both pci-e slots are in use they both run at x8.

I have a p5q deluxe btw and its a very good board.

Second x16 slot should run at x8.

The only thing X38 and X48 offer is two full x16 slots. P45 runs at x8 if two x16 slots are filled.

x8 should be plenty, cheers!

Dunno if I should start a new thread for this in the memory section but can you recommend a 4GB (2x2GB) memory set to go with the Deluxe.

I've got some G.Skill (see sig) at the moment but would prefer some rock solid JDEC compliant memory (runs at 1.8v) as I'm only interested in overclocking the CPU.

I'm usually a fan of Corsair. I only bought G.Skill last time as at the time of purchase they were the only manufacturer who made PC8000 2x2GB kits.

I'll take any suggestions though.

That'll do me! So cheap I might even buy 8GB...

Would that affect my CPU overclock or system stability in a negative way?
