Just been hit up the rear end by a 206, looking for some advice.

Guy admitted it was his fault, I braked and stopped, he didn't and hit me.

Now, I'm insured 3rd party f&t with elephant, he's insurance with Direct Line. Both insurance claims lines are onl open till 9, accident happened about 9:10 so no use calling tonight.

Am I better off calling my insurance company tomorrow or going directly to his?

You are best to call your own insurance and let them know what happened and they will tell you what to do.

i thought if it's as clearcut as this you just phone HIS insurer? Or even better, just phone helphire, even get you an equiv car, so for you it'd be quite tasty ;)

If you are TPFT, I'd personally go straight to his insurers.

There is no reason to get your insurers involved. Alternatively, get on the phone to Help hire. You should be entitled to a hire car etc if you process the claim through them.

How much damage have you sustained?

Knackered back bumper, looks like boot floor is dented/creased

Whats the deal with Help Hire then? Surely i'm best to still inform my insurers of what has happened?

I thought that if you phoned your own insurance they would do all the work for you regarding the claim.

This is poor advice although luckily it wont harm it like it would had he been comprehensively insured.

Ring your insurer ONLY to advise them of what has happened. Do not ask their advice and do not ask them to act for you.

Then, deal with HIS insurer OR via an accident management company such as Helphire.

Usually, involving your own insurer makes life a pain because they treat it as a fault claim first until they've recovered the money. That means you are treated as per the terms of your insurance, so you get a cruddy Ford Ka loan car, etc etc. You also lose your NCB until they've made a FULL recovery - great if renewal is just around the corner.

Seriously - NEVER go through your own insurer. NEVER.

Thanks for that Fox, always one to post exactly to the point!

Anyone on here used HelpHire, thinking of calling them first thing tomorrow to get some advice.

ive used them and all went quite well tbh, only had one problem but that was ford's fault not theirs :)

They had a courtesy car delivered to my work within 3 hours of my call, and for a 2000 mondeo they have me a nearly new 3 series \o/

Think they are at least worth a try, from what I've read I basically phone them, tell them what happened and they'll tell me over the phone if they can help?

yea, and in this case it's so clearcut they'll say yea, you give them details and they do EVERYTHING else, and get you a decent car! it's win / win

Helphire seemed ok for me. I had a ton of paperwork to sift through, and they wouldn't stop phoning me to ask for repeated information. But they seemed to deal with it ok other than that. I didnt get a like for like car though, i got a VW Passat. Did the job for the month though, cant really complain.

I didnt fill in any paperwork? :s

Also, how come you got a VW for an top end merc and I got an msport bmw for a mondeo :s

You're welcome. I was just curious that's all, seems a bit unusual :o

Perhaps I should rephrase... How come you drive a Celica GT4 and only have TPFT cover?
