I'm currently on Orange using a M3100. Which I've had 2 years after I went back to it preferring it over the basic HTC touch I upgraded to.

Obviously however it's a bit long in the tooth and time to upgrade. My main wish it to be able to tether it to allow surfing on my macbook when out of wi-fi range.

So I'm considering something from the following :-

1) HTC Touch Diamond
2) Samsung Omnia
3) iPhone 3G ( which would require a supplier change).

Or another similar alternative which I am not aware of.

Oh GPS would be a nice bonus and i do need a PDA/iPhone style.

Thanks in advance.

Well considering the thread on here about the Samsung Omnia, I'd add that to your list of possibles. Also available on Orange.

Mmmm interesting conversation with Orange retentions today.

Diamond - £119 to upgrade £26pcm contract with the £8 OW included.
Omnia - £200 - same contract deal.

Obviously, especially having been an Orange used for years, was rather disapointed by this and the fact the guy seemed to be under the impression both phone are full of bugs and issues which prevent them being a viable alternative to the iphone.

Having used winmo devices before I wonder how much these complaints are just users who don't appreciate how to use such a phone rather than serious issues with the phone.

I've read the threads on both phones and seems people are happy enough with them.. but with the iphone on £99 for a £30 contract (8gig) it makes it a tough choice.

With the ability to connect my laptop to the net being one reason for wanting this phone (yes I know it's frowned upon) I guess with these prices it comes down to a straight fight between the diamond and the iphone.

So - how easy is it to hook up a proxy connection through a diamond (I'll probably use wi-fi for the connection as I have a macbook so can fire up a network using that ) as against tethering with an iphone which of course needs a certain amount of 'hacking' to enable such features using 3rd party apps.

Orange also said the battery life of the diamond is terrible I've read reviews that seem to indicate it's not bad and I know winmo devices in general do have poorer battery life than their normal phone counterparts so is this again just people inexperienced with winmo's complaining?

Any help in making this decision would be appreciated. Thankyou.
