So I got my rig finally :) and have been tweaking and tweaking for hours. I havent had any real crashes yet (just a few errors in prime after 2/3 hours with too little vcore) and there hasnt been a single time when I could not boot.

Spec:

Intel Q9550 // Asus p5q delux // EVGA gtx 280 // 2x2gb dominator 8500+ // Samsung spinpoint F1 1TB // Be Quiet Dark Pro 750w // Lian Li V1000Z //

Cooling is a Noctua with 2 x 2000rpm 120mm sharkoon fans.

What I have changed so far:

fsb 473 x 8.5
vcore 1.368
loadline calibration enabled
vtt 1.34
vdimm 2.1
cpu pll 1.5
northbridge 1.36
mem timings: 5-5-5-15
fsb:mem 1:1

idle temps were 43 41 41 39 and max temps were 72 71 70 67 (after 5+ hours max heat test in prime) as you can see from real temp (add 5 due to tj max being 95).

Couple of questions:

1) should i be using 1:1 ratio at 473 fsb even tho i have 1066mhz mem?
2) Could I go further with water ?
3) Are these temps "acceptable"
4) Should i try and "tighten" my mem timings?
5) is a pll of 1.5 ok?
6) I havent touched by SB voltage (its on auto), should i just leave it?

edit: oh and 20k in 3dmark06 :)

Very nice, what are your full load temps like.

read above matey :p

btw i took that screen a few days ago, my temps are now down to 64-69 full load across the cores after 5+ hours of prime. acheived this with typical northern irish cold weather :)

Yep I seen

Heatsink paste can take a while to set in - Arctic silver I think is around 100hrs ~

Looking good.

Which BIOS version are you on? Whether or not 1.5v PLL is wise depends on it.

bios version 0704

In that case I'd recommend not setting PLL to 1.5v. On the older BIOS's 1.5v is the same as Auto, and I dread to think what it's really sitting at 473mhz FSB. Could easily be the bad side of 1.8v.

Still havent any answers for the following questions:

1) should i be using 1:1 ratio at 473 fsb even tho i have 1066mhz mem?
2) Could I go further with water ?

4) Should i try and "tighten" my mem timings?

Anyone have any ideas that could help ? :)

1) If you can run your memory faster then go for it.
2) Probably yeah. But you'll likely need silly & dangerous chipset voltages once you get over 480mhz FSB.
3) Yeah they're grand.
4) Only if you don't want to run the memory at ~1066mhz.
5) It'll likely be fine on auto.

yikes, il try 1.45 then ?

or do you recommend flashing to a newer bios version ?

ps: here's last nights prime run result :)

The lowest PLL setting is 1.5v. If you stay on the current BIOS then you should go no lower then 1.52v. But that will likely be too low for your current overclock. You may need to go closer to 1.56-1.58v.

cool cheers :D got it at 1.56 atm :)

Using an Asus Rampage here, 8gb Ram, Q9550 with a tuniq tower (near max fan speed). Think my cosmos s sport case helps quite a bit too.

Just hit 3.6Ghz with 425 FSB, 8.5 Multiplier, 1.2v (asus auto voltage)

Reading 65, 58, 58 and 54 in Real Temp 2.75 beta after 5 hours with Prime95.

Very happy . Got my 4870x2 idling at 43C too.

Now getting 3000 extra points in 3D mark vantage extreme!!!

Going to try for 3.8Ghz. Will increase the fan speed to max on the tuniq tower (I cant hear it anyway). Will need an extra fan for 4Ghz, but the chip WILL do it. Plus the motherboard handles everything automatically, a very good system for overclocking!
