Anyone with 8GB RAM who upgraded from 4GB?

i did and its not making any difference to vista, it did however let me turn off the page file without getting low memory warnings :). if your not using ram hungry apps its not really any use.

made no difference from 4 to 8gb for me, gaming, browsing, watching hd

i wouldnt recommend turning off the page file in vista, Vista works differently comparing to XP

It did for me, but not loads, quitting out of games with loads of windows open for one. If you look at perfmon, there is more or less 0 paging to the HD.

No differance at all, Vista will never use so much ram that'll need to go over 4GB

That's not quite true, I have seen usage of 7gb. If a program wants to use that much, it can, Vista is not going to deny it.

Sorry i meant, Vista itself will never require over 4GB

Did mine the other week - not so much or performance now, but for performance later. Given how cheap it is now, and the fact that by the time you realise your machine is being held back due to lack of RAM, the price has gone up or finding matching RAM is harder than finding rocking horse ****. :)

NO SWEARING

Yup - a database I was working on kept on freezing the machine...sqlserver was using 5.5GB RAM (db was 50GB at the time!) Slapped an extra 4GB in and machine no longer freezes when working on the database.

As said before turning off the pagefile in Vista stopped all my disk pages. The extra ram is also very handy for VM's, I can run a fair few before it has to page to disk and the performance is top notch.

How many times does it need be posted here or on sites like THG to show 8GB is no longer for high end Video work etc ?.

Its cheap as chips and it will let your HDD work less and NO, turning OFF the page file is still dumb as its needed for certain App's like Photoshop etc.

There is no need to ever turn it off.

I can vouch for 8GB. My 4GB Geil DDR2 doesn't cut the mustard when it comes the large photos, high resolution design work etc in adobe photoshop or corel X2. Its still a big juddery mess.

Interestingly, although im sure as **** not gonna buy one, the latest Macs sorry) have up to 32Gb RAM as an upgrade option....WTF?!!

Any idea how dodgy it is running 2x1GB+2x2GB sticks? I'm half-considering using up some of my RMA'd Crucial ram. I bought 2x2GB of OCZ stuff due to crucial bits messing up all the time but once I get my RMAs back I'll have 6x1GB sticks just sitting around... Hmm..

Plugged in an extra 4gb and my epenis grew*

* also made Vista slightly faster, but I wouldn't bother if your budget is an issue.
