Google - changed servers and old site keeps coming up

Will using a 301 delete the old url, as this is appearing at the bottom of the description in Google, or does it just re-direct it? Sorry I'm new to this. Are there any way of deleting the old url?

Johnny.

I found that google takes a couple of weeks to update once your site has been listed. I removed everyone from one of my hosts once and put a completely new website up, and google still listed it as the old one.

The new website is here

www.thewashhoose.com

the old website was here, I have since removed it
www.lovehatetattoo.co.uk/wash/index.html

The old website is appearing in google and the new one is not at all.

Would this 305 be correct?
redirect 301 /wash/index.html http://www.thewashhoose.com/index.html

So will Google update and remove this old link in a couple of weeks? I have submitted new robot and sitemap files, but don't know if this will make a difference. How long does Googlebot take to crawl your website? Will it update once it has?

cheers.

hibeesmad just to let you know, the way Google works is it sends its servers to search the internet and collect information about your site and stores.

It does this by randomly jumping and following links etc. it will take a little while for Google to scan your new site so you have to be patient for that.

As for your old one you have to wait for Googles computers to jump onto it again to see if it is there or not and then Google will deal with it appropriately (The effect of simply re-directing I'm not sure if Google will remove it and just add the re-directed site or whether it will still register the domain)

Basically you gotta play the waiting game for a week or 2
