Bioware is making a huge announcement tomorrow a mist huge rumours that it will be the new Starwars mmo

EA have already stated that they have been working on a new mmo for the past few years. Turns out all those old disgruntled swg vet rumours where true. But as always Bioware refuse to comment on rumours.

They always set SWG in the wrong era of the Star Wars universe (I said that many years ago just before logging into the beta). The storyline was set in stone from the films and the fact there was supposed to be no Jedi and only 2 Sith ruined the setting from a player perspective... I mean who is going to play a Star Wars game with no chance of becoming a Jedi :p

KOTOR times or years after Return of the Jedi (and after Kyle Katarn) would be the only possibilities while still giving recognisable locations and technology.

You could become a Jedi in SWG though couldn't you? IIRC the original idea was that you had to complete a "really hard quest" - i.e. get every skill (including dancing lol) maxed out and a Jedi character slot was unlocked on your account.

Trust me - the era was the least of SWG's problems ;)

Actually I think they chose a good time for SWG. It was the Empire vs Rebellion that made the game what it was. To be able to join either side with other people and actually feel like you where a part of it was excellent. Enabling Jedi ruined the game to a degree IMO.

With a KotOR mmoprg you can just imagine millions of Jedi running around everywhere. I mean I'm looking forward to it, but I dont think it will be as nostalgic or immersive as the original SWG was.

I'm really sorry, i don't mean this is a derogatory fashion but;
Bioware, Announcement, tomorrow, amidst.

And let's hope the game is decent.

Sod Jedi, i'd be a Bounty Hunter any day.

Bounty Hunters couldn't really compete against a Jedi that had a clue, In my years of SWG (pre-cu) I had never died to a Bounty Hunt (non group TEF).

So yeah the Bounty Hunter life wasn't that great!

I just hope they use the depth that SWG had - as in the huge arrary of craftables and ways of doing so. That depth of game is what I really missed in modern day MMO's.

swg was supposed to have no jedi that was the point they were extremely rare and a real challenge to unlock

galaxies was a good game that didn't quite live up to its potential.. and then went very very wrong towards the end...

Please make it better than Galaxy. A KoTOR style MMO would be grand in my opinion.

For god sake you had to say it didn't you!!!??

Now this entire thread will be derailed by people barking on about how good SWG before the combat thing.

Another wasted thread.

Rose coloured glasses time for all the old SWG players?

Apart from the crafting SWG was a very flawed game for a very long time before the CU or NGE.

An end game that consisted of hologrinding? A broken PvP mechanic and zero reward for PvP.

SWG was a mutant at its birth, one I loved and played allot but it was never going to make it to adulthood, and SOEs "surgury" just made things worse.

A Starwars game set in that period could have been amazing if it had been mass PvP based. and jedi should have been rarer than rocking horse ****. even before CU once the village was brought in it was going to be a nightmare. Infact the village is what killed SWG for me. An artifical grind to give the moaning masses what they wanted.
Jedis should have remained rare and perma-death, maybe even capped on a server but not what they became.

SWG Had many faults but was what an mmo should be at heart.

An online community where you did what you wanted. Built cities, run a business, looter , cut people hair!!!!

PvP was involving and not mindless grinds for new ownage gear. Defending cities and bases that where yours not afking in battlegrounds to get easy honor. it pulled you in.

I remember the combat reports and flames when attacks happened. Losing a base really hurt your pride

KDS losing their first base in a few years it was epic

This new SW mmo I just hope it not a wow clone where the chase for new gear is never-ending

*** - I agree 100% with your first point. SWG was a poor game before and after the changes, it was the people playing it that made it great - (for me anyway).

The exception being the crafting system, which was brilliant.

The villiage was put in to give people a method of playing Jedi. SOE felt (correctly I think) that a large number of subscribers were playing only for the chance of becoming a Jedi, because lets face it, 90% of people (yes, a made up statisitc I am guesstimating) will play a Star Wars game to be a Jedi.

I think thats the point a poster was making above regarding the problem with the era - Jedi were supposed to be rare, and yet everyone wants to be one.

Possibly better choices of Timeline would have been after episode 3 where there are still lots of Jedi but they get hunted down, or episode 6, where Jedi re-emerge.

On topic: I am a big fan of Bioware, and have very high hopes for an MMO created by them.

This is not just Bioware though. EA and LA are involved :( Lets just hope they leave the major decisions to bioware

True for the last 5-6 month I played SWG it was because of the people I played with more than anything. Infinity had a very good community and even the rebels I fought and chatted with were fun.
