My friend wants to burn a 3GB AVI file to DVD for playback in a DVD Player and for backup purposes. Is there any free software that can do this, or do I have to resort the dreaded Nero?
If you want freeware to do it then i'd reccomend DVDFlick http://www.dvdflick.net/download.php Personally i use ConvertXtoDVD but its around £25 to buy, the trial version puts a horrible watermark on youre finished DVD so not realy worth bothering with imo.
Newest version of DVDFlick (ConvertXtoDVD does too....) takes advantage of Dual/Quad Cores so i reckon it would take 20-30 mins to convert youre friends file and burn it to DVD ready for playback in any pc or DVD player . Works great, anyway let me know if you have any problems with settings (audio, resize, burning etc) and i'll be glad to help
