I'm torn between the two. Not having owned either but played some of each I don't know which to buy. I can afford to spend up to £350 but don't know which one to pick.

My cousins all have PS3's and play online so I would like to join them, but I'm pretty sure the '360 has the bigger online community?

I don't want this to be a fanboy vs fanboy epic battle for largest console e-peen, just what would you recommend to a late noob like me.

Thanks.

360 has better games and online is better

ps3 online is free and don't need to buy a £60 adapter

If one has any games you prefer, then get that one:)

I have a high(ish) spec pc and ps3, and using a 360 pad on pc I have the best of both imo. Obviously I can't have the likes of halo3 or forza though.

It's up to you. You will stuggle to find an unbiased response on here.

Personally, I like both machines but I am beginning to love my PS3. Best £300 I've spent on entertainment.

Forget the feature's as you're buying a game's console, If your cousins's arrange night's where they're playing together rather than doing them randomly (or atleast play online a lot) i would recommend the PS3.

you'll have Resistance 2, Socom confrontation, Little big Planet, COD World at War to look forward to to play online with them.

However The 360 has a fantastic online system, I've not got a PS3 so i can't comment on how well the system works on that system but i love playing over Xbox Live.

PS3 is what, £350 with 2 good game's? and with that their is free online play and blu-ray (if you really use it)

360 is about £150 now, but It'll cost you a varied amount to play online (however long you want to play it for) so lets say £13 for 3 month's, Wireless adapater unless you want to join connections with your PC which costs £30 from a certain retailer with Gears 2 (£55 otherwise). So all together It'll probably cost a bit less, about £280.

I would recommend the 360 over the PS3 but that's because i only have a 360, with what you want to do, I'd get a PS3.

Get what your real friends have, that's where you'll have the most fun on MP with them.

I had a PS3 and didn't use it for a year so I sold it, would never ever sell my 360.

One other point I'd like to add is that it's looking as if Microsoft will be the first to bring out a new console. The PS3 should be here for at least another 8 years. The fact that Bluray won the disc format war makes this more likely unless they bring out a 360 model with bluray.

(Not saying that Sony won't bring out a new console for 8 years but that they are commited to a 10 year life of their consoles.)

Both consoles have great games, both consoles are good, both consoles do things the other doesnt. :D
Always nice to play online with people you know, but you will make other "online mates" from playing consoles online and theres plenty of people in here that play online with both PS3 and 360.
As you are limited money wise you would be able to get a 360 with more games for youre money, but in the end you decide which is right for you.

I think somebody forgot about these things called ethernet cables.

That's why i mentioned linking between your PC :D, i rushed it though as im heading out in a min. but £30 is well worth it when bought with gears 2.
But wireless adapter is the same as linking it to your PC ain't it? I mean if you are all on the same network of course. ;)

I just use my 360 straight to the router, but I know someone who used to use ICS or something with a cable.

Anyway PS3's better, 360 sucks and doesn't last longer than 2 mins playing games, LOLZ.

Really depends on what games you want to play. Like if you want to play exclusives such as Gears of War, Halo on the 360 or Resistance, Killzone on the PS3.

Owning both of them i prefer the 360, but i didn't get the PS3 for games as i use it as a Blu-Ray player so i can't really comment that much on it.

However, since all your friends/family play the PS3 online, i would probably go with that. Either console is much better played with friends.

Aye i used ICS with my laptop, was very handy because i was not willing to spend £60 on a wireless adapter when my ethernet cable did fine. However getting my laptop set up every time i wanted to go on live was a pain, It's a lot better when you've got your PC turned on.

Their is also the option of using the socket's to connect the 360 up through the powerline, but it end's up being more expensive (not really read into it though).

The 360 controller is better & much more comfortable than the PS3 especially if you have big hands.
The PS3 looks better & has blue-ray.
More games & therefore a better choice of 2nd hand games at knock down prices on the 360.
360 is cheaper, Forget about the wireless for the time being & just sling your ethernet cable in & reboot your modem, JD.
PS3 online is Free but the 360 xbox live experience is 2nd to none & can be had for around 28 quid a year.
If I was you I'd get a 360 & loads of games & a PS3 controller to take round your cousins for a bit of multi on PS3 with mates.
