I know TTIUWP, but I can't be bothered - I just want to give my views on this monitor after receiving one yesterday.
I was toying with the idea of getting the 28" Hanns G but seeing how big 27" monitors are at work, I felt it would be too big to use comfortably, in addition to the fact it would have a larger 'dot pitch' (or whatever the LCD equivalent is) since the resolution is the same.
First impressions:
The mount is very nice - the base spins and the stand is height adjustable with a professional feel. It also allows the monitor to be landscape or portrait. I wasn't expecting this quality of mount with this budget of monitor.
The bezel and design are also to my liking - plain, simple, black.
The menu 'buttons' are the new touch-sensitive style.
The screen itself is just fine - I'm a gamer and not at all fussy about viewing angles since I sit facing the screen quite close on a desk.
Brightness obviously needed turning down and contrast was also too high at first. I think I settled on 40 Brightness, 60 Contrast after tweaking using the LCD test images here.
I didn't notice any input lag, but I'm not a competitive FPS player any more (I used to be a pretty good low sens Quake II player and loved the 100Hz refresh and 100fps frame rates on a CRT, so I'm pretty sensitive to frame rates and input lag, but I haven't tested this aggressively yet.). Gave it a quick blast in Doom 3 with plenty of 180' spins with the "monster closets"
No lag or ghosting to speak of. These days I mostly play WoW
so the resolution there is much appreciated. Getting Left4Dead in the next few days though, so that will be a nice test too.
Having gone from 22" CRT @ 1600 x 1200 to a 20" Dell LCD @ 1680x1050 to this one @ 1920x1200, I'm very happy. The sense of immersion is much better (of course this would also be an argument to go with the 28" Hanns G
).
To be honest, I don't think you can go wrong with any LCD panel, unless you're in the position of having a £400 PVA next to a £200 TN to compare. If you only have one monitor, I think you'll be happy with whichever one you choose, whether it be for resolution, aesthetics or whatever.
