Good luck.
Unfortunately anywhere we suggest will be a competitor since OcUK Only have the Mini noteboks with Linux on for less than 300 squidookles.
Looking around supermarkets will find you one under that price, but you wont have anything to choose from tbh.
Oh, and you probably wont be able to game on them either. The graphics cards are mega-basic.
What games?
Nothing new and costing £300 will play any newish 3D games.
I've recently bought a Dell XPS Gen2 for £325 which plays most games, but is about 3 years old.
Well if they got a problem with me asking for some advice, I don't wanna be a part of it. I can't up my budget and OCUK don't do a laptop for under £300 so they are losing nothing because of this thread. I am a loyal OCUK customer so if they ban me from this forum the only people losing out is them with my money in future.
Unfortunately for games in general new you will struggle big time, due to the monopoly of chipset/integrated graphics, you tend to find very little in the way of anything beyond Intel integrated around this pricepoint new. They will be able to play OLD games but they struggle with farcry at medium res so that says something.

No, not at all. Advise is fine, its just if we link to a competitor website saying this laptop is fine, they class it as promoting the competitor and WE get banned, not you . . . . A particular brand is fine, but we cant tell you where to get it from. As long as its not a competitor specific brand. HP is fine, same as Compaq etc.
The truth is, you are going to be hard pushed to get one for that to play games with. What sort of games will it be playing for a start? All the laptops around that price will run flash games no problem, but if you need games like World of Warcraft and similar, then its going to be no good.
Yeah aslong as we don't link websites, just talk about the laptops and such. Thanks for the advice. I found one with an Integrated Graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200 256MB.
I'm not talking new games more ummm stuff like 2004-2007. My asus EE901 can play san andreas so I'm sure this could play similar or better.
