Ok before i start with the small tutorial i thought id add that i know literally hundreds of people that have been wanting to play this game for ages on vista, and heres how, i wrote this literally a few mins ago so ecuse any spelling mistakes :p

Ok to get BFME2 working in any version of Windows Vista you need to first go to "folder options", "view" and then click on "show hidden files and folders", next go in to "Appdata" which is in your username directory, then "roaming" then "My Battle for Middle-earth(tm) II Files" make a folder inside the BFME II called "Maps" and then leave it empty, do not put anything in at all, next get any .ini file from the searcg bar, right click it and press copy and paste it in to the "My Battle for Middle-earth(tm) II Files" folder and open it up and paste this in to it

Next you press on "Save" and then rename the file to "Options" by clicking once and then again on the file itself and then editing it to what i stated.

Ok the next part is a little long but bare with me.

Go to were you installed BFME 2 and at the "lotrbfme2" right click it and press on "compatibility" next select win xp service pack 2 in the compatibility tab and press apply, next press on the security tab and click on "Users" and click edit next click on users again and check the box that says "full control".
Do this for the game.dat aswell including the compatibility mode.
Do this for your desktop icon, start menu icon and install directory and the game WILL work as im playing it right now on Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit Edition.

Hope you enjoy the game as much as ive been wanting to play it for the past 2 years :P, have fun all and let me know how its working for you.

Well thats the first, not the second, trust me a lot of people have had troubles getting battle for middle earth 2 to work with vista, i have no clue about BFME1 as ive never played it.

how odd, BFME is so much better anyway. They tookl what made BFME so good and differnt out of BFME2, the building pads. Forcing you to just a fwe buildings and having to fight for expansion etc.

Strongly suggest you try it if u enjoy LOTR.

Erm.....thanks but BFME 2 has always worked for me on Vista. (x64)

A quick google shows it doesnt always work straight of the box for everyone, i remember installing 2 and ROTWK but them not working so might give this a try over the xmas period. Thanks

frik ! i bought this cheap a while ago and it couldnt get it to work on Vista 64 !!! tempted to grab again if this does work, cheers

Oh trust me it works, the problem a lot of people had was that Vista handles permissions differently to XP so it wouldnt always work, from what i understand anyway.

it some times works for me and then sometimes it dosnt lol.

do any one play it a lot or in a clan??? i loved playin bfme 1 and 2 both great games!!!

Ok I was getting a disk read error on ROTWK until i gave full permission to the game exe and 2 .dat files, seems to be working fine now :)
