Hi there,
700W is fine for that system in terms of power requirements. Having a cheap PSU doesnt offer much in terms of longer-term reliability though. I wouldnt skimp on a PSU tbh I consider it one of the most important parts of a comp. I would get something like an Enermax or Corsair around the 700w range, Id even think a 620w would be more than capable of that system. Hiper had some v.serious issues with thier Type-R range a while back thier 580w models were pretty much all guranteed failures, I wouldnt recommend them at all!

;)

first things first

Welcome To The OCUK Forums.! :p

secondsly, the power supply you mentiond in getting the brand tells you all you need to know, HIPER

stay clear of those brand power supplies lol LOTS of people on here will tell you there troubles with them blowing up and taking components with them.!

you can never really go wrong with a good trusted poer supply.

do you have some sort of budget for a new one mate.?

Thats a pretty nice power supply estimator website, still a bit on the "safe" side, but so much better than the majority of sites.

a lot of them seem to be "sponsored" by hardware vendors, who clearly want to sell large PSU's. Some are clearly ridiculous, like an old P4 3.2Ghz + Geforce 6800 (plus bits and pieces) with an estimate of 400W+ being surprisingly "common". (Acutal measured power usage (at the wall socket) of said system was about 130w idle, 175w while gaming).

EsaT's link estimates my current system at 296w at the wall, which is not to far out (actually its around 250w while gaming)

That said, a £29 700W PSU, is likely 700W peak for a fraction of a second, rather than a true 700W PSU. The old Q'Tech PSU's come to mind, which in reality were 250W psu's sold as 600W, but the ratings plates constantly refered to peak output, which could only be maintained for around 1/10th of a second. There's a good reason why PSU's like the 650W corsair ( a very good value for money PSU) costs £70+vat.

Hiper definatly went through a dark phase for a while, one of their popular PSU's was once stripped down, and the circuit board inside was printed up with "models" ranging from 200W to 350W, yet Hiper were selling it as a 450W supply! Have no idea what their current line up is like these days. I stick with Seasonic myself, (Or sometimes Seasonic OEM Corsairs)
