I'm due an upgrade from T-Mobile but I really can't bring myself to like anything out at the moment... I've looked at the following:

Samsung Omnia - Looks alright, screen too small for browsing?
Samsung Tocco - A possibility?
T-Mobile G1 - Build quality looks questionable and battery life = pants
Sony Ericsson C902 - I've grown to hate SE software and phones (my k810i has driven me mad)

Is there anything else coming out soon as I really can't see myself getting on with any of the above. I wouldn't mind an iPhone but I'm not moving networks :p I just want to make calls, send texts, check email and do the odd bit of browsing, but GPS would be very handy indeed.

I'm currently on my 3rd G1 in 2 weeks - Whilst the build quality is a bit ropey what with quality control seemingly questionable the actual device and OS are a charm to use... I'm seriously impressed, and that is quite something considering the pain I'm going through trying to get a good G1... Not sure if this latest replacement has minor issues but I'm tempted just to leave it and get on with using the thing!

I'm sure Tobes will be here soon enough to pimp the G1 some more :p

Otherwise, have you checked the E71? When I was on the look out for a phone I was very tempted by this - Infact to date I'm still asking myself whether I'd have been better off going for the Nokia to begin with... Never had a poorly built Nokia but then maybe I'm just lucky.

Not had any hands on with any other phones on your list.

I've got the E71 and the screen is a bit small for serious browsing but build quality is superb.

Currently looking at changing to an HTC Touch Pro which looks superb but not available on T-mobile.

Otherwise Nokia 5800 express music due out soon and looks good..

I'm here... don't panic. :D

OK G1 battery life. Do you charge your current phone everyday? If the answer is yes then get the G1. If however charging everyday doesn't seem your thing, prob best not to get the G1. :)

omnia omnia omnia

i loved mine anyway but flashed to get rid of all the vodafone crap yesterday and its like a whole new phone

screen is fine for the odd browsing (i use it quite a lot to be fair) and its great for emails

touchscreen takes a while to get used too mind !

If he uses the K810i I'd be suprised if he charges every day. My W810i, although based on an older model, lasts almost a week on 1 charge...

Actually the battery life on my K810i has never been that good. I end up charging most nights, but I do make quite a lot of phone calls during the day.

Considering the Omnia now but I don't know whether the touch screen thing is just a passing fad and will end up annoying me

Can the Omnia do ringing and vibrating alert at the same time? Samsungs in the past not being able to do this drove me insane as I kept missing calls in noisy places :( Also - does it run IM clients OK - T-Mobile site says no instant messaging but surely you can install a third party client?

Only major new thing round the corner I am personally aware of is the Nokia N97. Nokia finally coming to the touch screen market in their top phone N series. Whether it is any good or not of course no one knows yet.

I am not personally upgrading probably for another 14 months or so and I am fully expecting to be getting a Android based phone, there should be some awesome handsets out by then.
