Well...i won a tasty ammount on a scratch card today on the way to work..not quite life changing, shocking, not life changing....its in the thousands...more than £7,700 but less than £7,800 ;)

I dont have a car atm, using my mums, im have my license, been driving around 6months, i want something with some grunt and looks nice...want something better than an Escort 1.8....and the money has to buy car and some insurance, doesnt matter if i goes over the £7,777 winnings, but i want something pokey and good looking.

Can you help?

You are 18, with <1yr experience and 0ncb, insurance will kill you on something sporty!

No idea what car to suggest though as don't know what you like.

A 2.0 focus ghia? iirc the insurance group on these is reasonable.

Good looking is very subjective. If you don't want a Focus what about a Honda Civic or a Golf?

If it was me I would still buy a smaller engined car to begin with, build up some no claims and then get the more powerful car.

Rgds

Really depends on your insurance, but get something a bit cheaper just now you can call yours and save it for when you can get insurance.

pic of winning scratch card or i call BS :D

exactly

ive seen too many of these threads that have gone into pages of arguing. with the poster adaement they have indeed won the lottery, and the poster then disappears without trace.

If you were seriously after a car, you wouldnt post that you'd won money on a scratchcard, you'd just ask what car for 4k or whatever, once you worked out how much you needed elsewhere to pay debts etc..

aye, sounds a bit iffy.

what appened to that lad who claimed he won millions on here not long back and had a whole ZOMG IM RICH SPEC ME A CAR thread going on?

Have you not seen his latest thread? It's pretty good reading. 'Spec me a proposal to my russian girlfriend who I've seen 7 times since we started going out a year ago' or something.

Big claim and under 100 posts. I call Shenanigans.

She's only after his money :)

I'm normally all for jumping on the 'wtf ocuk, stop being jealous and just accept what the OP is saying' bandwagon but it's pretty clear this thread is complete and utter BS.

This sounds a lot more realistic than the millions. Just spec a car for 7k that's appropriate...

Might i suggest, if it's your first car, spending 2,000 on a tidy Focus then sticking the reast away until you're 25 and can afford to run something more exciting?

meanies :( i only won it today, i dont have any debts, just want something fun, funky, pokey and nice to drive, rather than a beat up old escort 1.8 :(

digital cameras are quite handy, take a pic, upload to photobucket et voila, proof that you really arent feeding us horse manure. And don't even say you don't own a webcam/ camera phone / digital camera coz then you really are feeding it :D

Maybe this.

No, because 18 year olds don't do sensible suggestions. :p

Exactly. Anyone on here who's given sensible advice goes against it anyway. So I'm just starting off with unsensible advice. :p :D

As for insurance, it'll be rather high. You need to get a few quotes to get an idea, but if it really is through the roof (which it may well be), just pootle around in someting a bit slower for a little while and build up your no claims discount.

If your a heart before head person, the Clio would be worth a look. It's not that girly either - Gilly owns one. :D

You can pick up an ok 182 for shade over £5k, but insurance will likely eat the rest completely. Maybe a cheaper, slightly older 172 would be better.

Note that I recommended a 182 before I realised how young you are, so don't go doing anything too rash right now! If I was in your position, I'd try something a bit less exciting until insurance is at a sensible-ish level (a grand or there abouts), then consider something with a bit of grunt. If your insurance quotes come through quite cheap (doubtful), then a sporty Clio wouldn't be a bad idea for a fun car.
