So im driving to work, usual 55mile commute yesterday morning, going through some tiny villages about 5 miles from work when this woman reverses a rover 200 into the road in front of me, im going 15mph or so and i cannot go anywhere.

I slam on the brakes, swerve but hit her rear corner sending her spinning. The snow was terrible, and very thick on the road. I ran over to her car once stopping to check she is ok, she comes out shouting at me as if it was my fault, not that it was her fault for illegally reversing onto a main road in normal conditions let alone in blizzard conditions.

Turns out she is polish and doesnt understand english well at all, so i try to get her details, she deicdes to ring for help, 5 polish guys turn up shouting and pointing at me, probably trying to give it the big one, whatever. They eventually bugger off, and after about 45minutes of standing about i manage to get her details (which are probably fake, as the guys that turned up didnt call her what was on the driving licence).

Insurance company tho found the name and car as insured so what do i care if it wasnt her? Had to stop over night in a B+B i occasionally stay in (contractor). Got my car collected today and was given a 08 plate VW Jetta 2litre TDI, not bad car.

Anyway, was informed today the repair was prob guna cost simular to a write off so if i was desperate for the car they will repair it, least ask the insurance company what they want to do. My car is a 2000 W ford mondeo 2L zetec. They said with my milage and condition retail is £1800 in glass's guide, whats the likely payout? bottom end value? its pretty damm good nick minus the damage it has now, and 57k on it.

I want the write off so i can get myself something more exciting, this car was a fill in but man is it boring.

heres the damage

how much you reckon a write off will get me?

its a mondeo with a broken bumper, they will tell you to tape it up and forget claiming!

1800 for a W reg mondeo zetec 2l is massively enthusiastic at the moment, i think you'd be looking at nearer to a grand for it!

What damage is there other than the bumper? I can't see that being a write off if it is just bumper, my ghia x with rsap had to have a new bumper and even then the front bumper was only £450, they said a standard one wouldve been nearer to £100. cant see it being more than £500 to fix that even at ford stealer rates (I needed a new bumper and a new headlight on an RSAP'd deo and it was £700)

Tom.

haha, think its guna be a write off personally, and its defo not my fault so no worrys there, as she reversed onto a main road which is illegal in the best conditions let alone a blizzard

im not expecting £1800, i was thinking more nearer £1200?

WEll, bonnet is damaged, wing is damaged, bumper is damaged, all lenses are cracket and the cases broken, no damage to the engine tho at all

if they write it off for that, buy it back and repair it. Itll cost you £30 for a decent condition bumper and a couple of hundred to get all the paintwork fixed if you can be bothered even having that done. Again, lights will cost £bugger all from a scrappy, headlights are only £70 brand new.

No amount of paint application is going to fix the rather bent panels! OP has already stated he wants it written of so he can get something more exciting, and who can blame him.

Yeah buy it back and dont even bother about a new bumper, just take off the duff cracked bits and enjoy your £1000 profit :P

if i did buy it back i think it would need a new bumper as there is a rather sharp bit of chassis sticking out which would cut someones leg off at the knee if someone was hit by me
