hi all,

I have recently bought a brand new system but it was only last night that i actually played a game on it this being Crysis. its looks stunning, However the problem is when I play it i can only play it for 5 mins before the whole thing crashes out (managed 30 at best) and restarts.

I also get a strange high pitched whinning sound when i sart the game this becomes louder as i move my cursor over the buttons in the menu.
im using a BFG 285, there is obviously something wrong here i thought it could be over heating but the case is pretty cool and the fans i set on high speed when playing. can anyone help? should I send this one back to OCUK for a replacement?. in windows it is fine (running vista 64 btw).

my specs

Yeah, overheating is the first thing that pops to mind. Especially if it only does it when you're gaming. Try taking the side of your case off during your next session, and download an app to watch the temperature of your card. Good luck, Chris.

Does your pc crash with any other game, download GPU-Z or Rivertuna to check temps.
Also my card whine when folding or playing certain games (GTX 8800).
There have been a few threads with cards whining.

I bought a GTX 285 OC last week and it works fine, I was shocked at how hot it gets though. At stock fan speeds it was getting to about 90C during Crysis. That is in a case with 2 front intake fans and 1 fan out. I downloaded Rivatuner and created some custom fan profiles and while it does make it more noisy it didn't go above 65C.

Not saying that overheating is your problem but it might be something to look at to eliminate, especially if your case doesn't have particularly good airflow.

Meant to mention as well, my 285 squeals like crazy in Crysis setup and loading screens, its quieter in game though. Capacitor squealing seems quite common and not something to be overly concerned about. My 8800GT did the same thing and that is still going strong after 18+ months.

i am still worried by the noise, tho the crashing was over heating, have since put in an extra fan ok now.

what warranty do you have on this card it says ten year is that automatic or do i need to register the card with the vendor for this to be valid with BFG cards

Hi Paul,
Glad you sorted your card out.:)
You need to create/register a BFGtech account and then email them with serial Number on your card along with a proof of purchase receipt to activate your ten years UK warranty (US BFG has lifetime warranty for some reason). If you don't you just get 2 years I think.

umm just to update you my card is still over heating i was wrong even with another fan. now i have to take the side panel off to play crysis without it crashing... surly this is not right?
