1 in 20 £1 coins is fake

Now they said it was 1 in 40 a few months back, but I have so say from personal experience its a much higher figure.

At work we get loads, people just dont know the difference and I never refuse them. I give them out as change as well, not intentionally usually, mainly because i dont analyse the coins when giving change.

This brings me on to my main point - surely this means that the coins are not "worthless" as the royal mint says, but instead have a value? Obviously officially this is not the case but in the real world?

They are getting used by people on a day to day basis. Its not like a fake note whereby they're often spotted - people dont bother with £1 coins generally and if they do spot a fake they just try to spend it anyway as its only £1

Anyone else regularly get fakes and does it bother you?
