Looks to me like its trying to be an ASUS eee box, though it should be a little better by those specs. Saying that it does look butt ugly and its an acer..... ooooew nasty thing :D

It could be a lovely HTPC, but IMHO with no optical drive and only 100 Meg Network it is missing a couple of items. These is going to make it hard to get you content onto the box (or its bigger brothers with HDD) or to stream media to it.

Yes, 100mbit seems a bit crappy for today's media..didnt spot that and was gonna buy one for NAS duties. My Eee gives me 20 megabyte a second which is faster than a 100mbit connection can do so it looks like the Eeebox is staying!

The lack of ODD is really not an issue today IMO. That's not what this is designed for.

Gigabit ethernet is not a must, but very useful. However, I find steaming almost all my contect over wireless 54g is absolutely fine, so for the money it's not bad.

Looks nice, it's also quite upgradable (noticed an article on bit-tech).

i hate the out side look of it myself, but the hardware seems good.

gonna see what ppl think of it, be for i get myself 1

The decent one will be 300 quid anyway.
100Mbit is fine for streaming media. 1080p x264 doesn't need more than about 20Mbit.
What he said.

The weakness of these machines is Flash is not accelerated by the GPU.
So iPlayer and web content chugs with the crappy CPU.

Yeah poor flash performance isnt really all that great considering it is a NETtop. Looking forward to see what happens with a VIA/Ion combo tho

This actually looks good, acer seems to be making nice looking pc's just look at the aspire one notebook look brilliant in blue.

Not another of the two people round the world saying "I need Hulu" or something like that. I guess it depends on your particular needs. For me, Flash is unimportant but a 100mbit connection is not good. Depends on needs.

For something with an HDMI port that is designed to be mounted behing a TV, I'd say the ability to play flash video is pretty important, given that most major streaming services use it.

Only thing is that the Zotac Ion (Atom 330) beats this hands down. It has digital optical out, digital coax out, HDMI, DVI etc, 3 SATA and so on making it more HTPC friendly because of the audio and video connectivity options.

Supports 2 banks of DDR2 so can re-use old memory and requires no fans.

I was going the Revo Aspire route but this looks like a better fit for an HTPC.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information about the network on this, most review websites and websites that retail it show it having wireless n and gigabit with fastpacket - however others just show 10/100 and b/g.

One of my workmates has ordered one, however it's the Linux version as he just wanted to use it as a media pc (xbmc or something). We'll see how it goes :)

10/100 Lan connection is fine for streaming HD. The Revo isn't perfect, but it is really cheap for a HD XBMC box. Being tiny and power efficient aren't bad features either.
