I am having problems in the above MOBO running with all 4 slots filled. I orginally had 2X1G corsair value select 400MHZ DC and it worked fine. I decided to fit 512MHZ X2 into the other slot and with a power down and cmos reset it worked fine but win7 would onlu use 2gig but saw the three.
I have now bought another 2 gig of corsair value seelect bit the system will only post with 3 gig. For same reason it will not post with the mem slot further from the CPU filled with the other1 gig slot.

Hi Op,

I've been trying to get an A8N32 board under water (not literally - that would be stuupid) for the past month. My only comment about the board would be it's thin - way too thin!!

So you are trying to POST with 4Gb Value RAM - right?

Ok have you tried lowering the RAM timing (to say a 166 base clock) in the BIOS? Then stick in that extra stick of RAM and try booting into 4Gb...

It is worth swapping the RAM sticks around (when using 4 sticks) and cleaning the gold fingers with pure isopropal alcohol (anti-static precautions, etc. of course). Always worth reseating the sticks again.

The BIOS on the A832N board has loads of skew correction stuff - does yours? That might be useful...

It is also worth getting one those el-cheapo PCI diagnostic cards. They show the BIOS POST stages as 2 HEX numbers with a little manual telling you what that means in the 3 main BIOS types. That is assuming you don't just get the fatal beeps of death... BTW do you get any memory error beeps at POST??

I presume you are using something like BIOS Version 1016??

Not sure what else to suggest really... (I am only trying to build with 2Gb 4x512Mb of Geil PC3700 RAM).

Hi Bob,
The funny thing is it booted with 2x1gig &2x512mb. with 4x1gig the pc comes on but no beeps or display. I have tried the sticks in the other slots and they work no prob.
Its just when the work are in there together.
Bios is 1805 the last one before they stopped updating.
How do I set the clock to 166?

The rest of the system specs are Antec earthwatt PSU 430 Watts,
Opteron 175 at stock
Gigibyte 6600GT GFX
I have 3 sata HDD and 1 IDE along with dvd writer
I want to get it fixed as I want to give it to my daughter.

Yeh it was just a thought that using a slower memory clock might allow the board to boot. It's easy to do just fire up the BIOS (with a couple of RAM sticks installed or whatever) and refer to section 4.4.1 of your manual/ look in Advanced / CPU Configuration / DRAM Configuration... Set your Max Memclock (MHz) to DDR333 instead of AUTO. Then shutdown stick in the other 2 sticks of Corsair RAM and see what happens. Do make sure you have one of those small case speakers hooked up so you can hear if the board beeps (if it doesn't POST) - this is all useful info!!

You can't slacken off the RAM timings (3-3-3-8) - they are already at the upper limit the board supports. There also doesn't appear to be any RAM timing skew tweaks like the board I am using...

I would also rule out a problem with the board not liking 4Gb installed. Got any friends or colleagues with 4x spare 1Gb DDR400 sticks lying around?? :D

It could be the ol' high density RAM vs low density RAM problem. I would check whether your Corsair RAM is high density RAM (which is often the case with cheap RAM). This may not be fully supported on the board (when all the slots are populated) - a quick email to the ASUS support would confirm this fact. Plenty of cheap low density 1Gb DDR RAM on the 'bay' in this case.

Just to update, I tried all the sticks and on their own work fine.
slots 123 & 234 are Ok when I do 1234 it turns on but nothing happens to splash screen.
i have tried all the slots and invidual they are Ok, its jjust with them all together.

From the Corsair website:
I have two Corsair Memory modules that work fine together but when I added two more modules of the matching part number, they won’t work.
We test these modules as they’re sold. In other words, a 2GB kit is tested only as a pair, not with two other modules. We’re not certain how two kits when put together will perform. While it is possible to get 2 separate kits working together, it will most likely require adjustments to be made in your BIOS to get the modules up and running. If possible, we suggest lowering your memory frequency and slightly increasing northbridge voltage. Please consult your motherboard manual for information on how to make these adjustments.

If you’re not comfortable making these adjustments, or if the BIOS doesn’t allow for these adjustments to be made, you might want to consider our 4GB memory kits.

My flatmate has 4 sticks of 512Mb DDR RAM in an RDX200 DFI board. To overclock the CPU we had to run the RAM at about 160Mhz vs. 200Mhz stock!! Still an Opteron 165 @2.8Ghz is nothing to complain about
