I wish to start the probably long and difficult task of learning to edit a bios. However this is difficult to Google, as there seem to be waves of people asking how to hit del during boot which rather gets in the way.

So, does anyone have something useful bookmarked?

Objectives are to gain control over voltage and fsb speed on a board that does not allow it. My main interest is in undervolting laptops to increase battery life. Beyond this, there is a very nice zotac mini-itx 775 board that does not allow undervolting, rather limiting its use as a htpc.

I'll start from a downloaded bios, and presumably a hex editor. Start to edit it, then flash while holding my breath. However beyond this I'm pretty lost, so hope someone can point me in the right direction. Guides, theory, or even better some form of sandbox to allow me to test it.

Cheers for any ideas.

Cheers, but not in a any sense what Im looking for. Soldering resistors onto the motherboard of a laptop is a rather less transferrable skill.

I'm primarily interested in the learning process, extracting more battery life from laptops is only a bonus.

Moved to the motherboard section? Graphics cards have these too? It's programming more than motherboards or graphics cards, and doesn't really fit under Windows or Linux subsections
