Hi all.

Following on from my first ever photoshoot with a person (thread here) I have finally done another shoot with Helen.

We took a trip down to Hellingly Mental Asylum which I had explored and photographed back in June. Armed with a single flash (430EX), a 24" softbox and a set of 'eBay' radio triggers, we made our way in and got off some shots.

It was all very rushed, but I am reasonably happy with the results :)

C&C welcome as always.

Thanks for looking.

I have a few more to process but they need some work.

Great set mate and as said on flickr number 11 is the stand out shot for me. If I had to give one tip and its not about the photos you have shot but after also seeing Hellingly maybe you could use the place a bit more with her. I'll be taking a visit back up soon as I have some mad idea's so we should hook up ;)

I had similar feedback elsewhere.

I definitely didn't make the most of the location at it was a spur of the moment thing. It would be great to meet up there with you at some point for some urbex style photos.

I think one of my problems from the two portrait shoots I have done is that I am terrible at directing the model! I just need to do some research and look for inspiration when it comes to poses, angles, lighting, etc.

It would be great to get some goth type girl up to Hellingly, could get some awesome photos!

Nice shots, although the pretty girl doesn't really fit with the creepy, grungey location.

I agree with this,

Its also difficult to make the background out in most shots so its really moot that it was shot at hellingly.

Thanks for the comments again.

I tried to blur the background out as much as possible in most of the shots so hopefully the location doesn't matter too much. I know it seems a shame to waste such a spooky location but this was such a spur of the moment thing it wasn't really something I could have planned for.

I know for certain she wouldn't want to get gothed up though :p

Good point, I wonder whether I hadn't mentioned that I was at Hellingly whether I would have had the same comments :)

So are you still courting the lovely Helen? Taking her to a mental asylum went down well did it? :) I remember on my first date with my current partner I thought it would be a good idea to take her to a steelworks, romantic or what? What was I thinking? Luckily she is still with me 14 years later so it can't have put her off that much :)

Yeah Nice set mate, along with most others 11 is also my fav. Although 13 i really like to, the aspect really fits the setting well, looks kinda 'blair witch'

Moley = wrong!

haha, nice!

Yes indeed...All is good on that front :)

Nice shots, hard to decide which I like best. I prefer the colour shows with her lovely smile - so I'd say 4 and 10 are the ones I like best.
Great work :)

these are great! i like them all, spose it helps that you've got a nice model ;)

i like the different pp styles and think you have done a good job there.

12 seems a bit grainy has it been cropped? and im not to keen on the pose and composition of 10.

number 7 works best for me, the pp works very well, its nice and sharp with great eye contact +1

4, 8, and 11 are runners up.

good work.

Thanks dude.

Good spot on no. 12, it is indeed a crop. The original crop is much like no. 7. The reason I cropped it is because she is on the left side of the frame and I was annoyed that I didn't have her on the right side looking INTO the frame, if that makes sense? I'll post up the original later.

No. 10 is a slightly awkward pose. I could tell she didn't feel comfortable with it at the time as she pulled it as a bit of a joke. Despite our extreme comfort in each others company I think she was still nervous posing in front of me for that shot.
