Hi, I recently bought a *OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz Max bundle. Unfortunatly the side panel does not close, due to the after market CPU cooler being too tall, (Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler), it's 158mm overall about 20mm too high. Other than removing the side panel fan what are my alternatives?
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately it's either remove the side panel fan or change the cooler for something a little smaller. I know CM were supposed to release a v2 of the Cosmos for this very reason. Maybe you could email them and see if they have released v2, and if so, if you can buy a new side panel.

CM have really given up on the cosmos s, last time i spoke to them they said there will not be any V2 side panel, but you can buy the one with the window. that will fit the Noctua in fine.

Just remove the side fan...it's useless and a hazzard anyway. I used to have a Noctua cooler fitted and that was all that I needed to do. You could also just remove the grill and replace with a window panel. It is extremely easy to do.

See here ;)

if your handy with a dremel you could mod the top of the fan, but tbh id just take the fan out. I never noticed any difference in temps after removing it.

and yeah, coolermaster really dropped support for the case very early. I still have a thread going on their forums about how bad their CS is

Bit of a late reply but you can modify the panel and fit the fan on the outside of the case.

I have the same case / mod.

With additional fan grill.

NOTE: This is not my case, I found these pictures on the web ages ago and copied it. Kudos to the original poster.

nice find !
got a link to how its done, must involve cutting a hole in the metal guard no?

edit,

never mind, looks like the metal guard has been removed all together with the fan being screwed onto the mount from the reverse position.

hi

i had the same problem with my cosmos s case and my heat sink. i just got the dremel out and removed part of the fan shroud that was hitting the cooler. was quite easy and on the plus side it supports the end on my cooler which is good as these cases have to have the cooler side mounted

if you dont want to cut the case apart fit a ocz vendetta 2 cpu cooler
its a tight fit but will be ok without messing with the case ( incase you want to sell the case later on).
