Took delivery of my Silverstone Fortress Black Case must say in looked good in the pic’s but even better close up, just love those simple sleek lines. LOL Thought 120mm fans were big but look tiny sitting next to a 180mm(spec – 18dba, 700rpm, 100cfm) There’s two 180mm fans(air in), one top rear which will put plenty of cold air onto the Corsair H50 with two Apache fan’s in a push, pull config which is part of my build, fan two 180mm front bottom(air in).
As the case works on positive air pressure, exterior and interior finish is excellent well worth the money, also got hard drive bay adapter 5.25 to3.5 with 120mm fan(air in)and is well worth adding to the case by the reviews I’ve read this will allow me to take out the bottom HD bay’s allowing better flow of incoming air from 180mm fan. Can’t wait to receive my component’s from OCuk so I can start my build because two component’s are out of stock and won’t receive my part’s until they are in stock, hopefully about two week’s top’s for my i7 build. :D

HI,

Just buying a FT01. I was thinking about putting an extra fan in the front bay slots. What did you get? Is the finish the same?

Thanks,

Hi sldsmkd, adapter review link -

http://www.xtremecomputing.co.uk/review.php?id=327&page=1

As l say well impressed with mine, spent a whole day researching case's mine must be a middi-tower, read a thread in case central liked the sound of them, read a couple of review's and l was sold on one. :D

Yeah, that's exactly the same setup as me (except mines silver + windowed).

I'm thinking of getting an extra CFP52B and doing a frankenmod with the CFP51 so I get the looks of the 51, but the hot swaps of the 52 (I have a stack of the adapters laying around).

I'm looking to get this case, and am just in the planning of how to set it up. I'm trying to work out what to mount in the 5.25 bays, among other things.

As it's designed to work with positive air pressure, I'm thinking that it's best not to reduce the speed of the fans (with a fan controller). I'm keen on having a setup that's as quiet as possible, and the review I read suggested that this is not only fantastic looking but also very quiet.

Thoughts?

It is quiet, compared to my previous one which was a WaveMaster.
A fair amount of space for running cables round the back of the motherboard, although it is a bit tight to put the side panel back on.
Mine is black with sidewindow.
If you intend to light it up do not buy 12" cathodes as there is not enough space to fit them.

Thanks trackrat for the heads up on the cathodes - I was planning to get some for a green lighting effect. Might have to get the case before I actually decide what to do with it.

Hi,

I got this case about a month ago and I love it too :), thought I would see what it looks like powder coated, so have had that done and just got these pictures through in an email;

These pictures look really nice! Is the fortress any good for the following setup?

2 x 4890s
Noctua i7 Cpu Cooler
4 Hard Drives

Would there be sufficient airflow? I get 50c system temp in my thermaltake case and I think it's down to it being too thick (3mm steel).

I would say there should be sufficent airflow due to the positive pressure in the case, the components I have had in it are

Q6700 @ 3.6Ghz which at load was ~50C
GTX 260 with 80% fan at load was 65C
and a Thermalright Ultra 120

The only problem would be the 4 hard drives would obstruct the airflow from the front fan as you have to use the hard drive caddy cage thing which sits right infront of the front fan.

I only had one hard drive so mouted this in the 5.25" bay to maximise airflow.

I may go with the Antec 1200... looks like very good for front intake airflow given the number of hard drives. Is it a good choice?

I had the Antec 900 before the FT01 and my system had about ~3C difference in tempertures between the two cases. I think the 1200 will have better airflow for the four hard drives yes.

Maybe there is other people on here with the FT01 and 4 hard drvies that can tell you what theirs is like.

If you got a front bay device with a 120mm fan in it, would help. The 900 build quality isn't as god as the FT01 though.

If you get one of the bay devices, you can have the hard disks installed there and completely remove the lower bay mounts - this should give enough airflow for the two 4890's.

Like said by sldsmkd you could get a bay device, or you could have it smething like Willy has with his Fortress:

Then you could have the 4th hard drive in the 5.25" bay above, this would restrict the airflow less.

Tr1p, is that CPU cooler a TRUE? I'm thinking about getting a Prolimatech Megahalems which I think has very similar dimensions, but I'm a bit worried about it fitting in this case...

Yep, the Prolimatech will fit, I've got one inside my Fortress with loads of room to spare.
