Hiho,

Please help I am a complete noob when it comes to overclocking. Just built a bran dan new system on an msi 790fx gd70 board with 4gb (2x2gb) DDR3 corsair 1600mhz ram but running at 10666mhz.

Via the forums I have figured out that it needs overclocking to get the full 1600mhz, can anyone give me some detailed advice on how to do this?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

i had this problem 2
but with Asus MB... but with 1600mhz runin at 1066..
and even CPUz doesn't give me timings for 1600mhz.. but i just set it in Bios for 1600mhz and it runs fine ran Prime95 for 4 hours nd everything was ok :)

similiar problem here too,

ram is 1600mhz stock
motherboard supports up to 1900mhz overclock

i can only run my ram at 1333mhz, currently at 1358mhz. I read i need to enable XMP for the SPD data to be read, as soon as i enable XMP i cannot boot the system at all, infact it screwed my bios up with that enabled - thankfully dual bios kicked in and repaired the fubared one.

No guarantee's your ram will actually run at 1600 on AMD boards.
Some will allow it others just wont.
I've built 2 systems in the last few weeks both with exactly the same spec.
1st board ran the mem at 1600 np,2nd wouldnt.

Only suggestion I can make to you is check which memory your board manufacturer recommends.

Only if you are running memory recommended by them will you have any recourse for complaint should you find you cant run at speeds supported on the memory they recommend.
I was running memory that wasnt guaranteed to work with the systems I built but the difference from running at 1333 on Phenom 2's is near zero anyway, tighter timings profit this platform than more bandwidth.

So next time I build one I'll go for 1333 with tight timings and save a few quid lol.

i decided im not too worried about the few hundred mhz im not getting, loosened my timings abit and am getting decent boost :)
